Save the Vinyl #2: The Record-covered Notebook

Here’s a great use for old vinyl now that digital DJing is landing blow after blow on the decks ‘n’ needles brigade: a rather kitsch record-backed notebook. Yes, an enterprising craft company called Buy Olympia is turning old records into notebooks.

Now I don’t know about you, but I am happy using my iPhone to jot down anything I need to remember, from lists of tunes I’m after to reminding me to pay some money into my bank account whenever I can, but if you’re the type of person who feels it’s important to keep an old-school notebook to hand, this is definitely an improvement on the Moleskin.

Mind you, if you’re the kind of fashionista who would spend $28 on a notebook, you’re probably also the kind of person who thinks it’s still clever to spend $7 or more plus postage and packing to get a vinyl version of a new tune, rather than spend $0.79  to buy the track you want instantly from a digital download store. In which case, if you ARE still a vinyl DJ, by buying this notepad you’ll actually be hastening the demise of the medium you’re clinging on to. It’d be like a nature conservationist buying a stuffed tiger.

Mind you, there are only a few hundred tigers left; there’s enough vinyl to give every schoolboy a vinyl notebook the world over. It guess it would give them somewhere to write down all the websites they’re going to be ripping music, videos, games and software from when they get home from school.

If they’re not all tapping the info into their iPhones, of course.
