Couldn’t resist telling you about this one. If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, the 4.5/5-rated DJing application, djay – which we’ve covered in it’s Mac, iPad and this iPhone/iPod Touch versions over the past year – is now available with a 90% discount for only US$0.99/£0.59.
If you have any music at all on your iPhone (personally I sync my smart playlist of my current DJ set so I can carry around my “box” for a quick mix at all times), you owe it to yourself to have a DJ app on there – and at this price, you really can’t go wrong with djay.
The app has two beautifully animated decks with sync, EQ, looping, auto-zoom waveforms, tight iTunes integration (although the ability to sort by BPM would be great), and even the ability to record your sets for listening back later.
You can add a splitter cable and – I’m being serious here – it is completely possible to DJ a full party anywhere with just this app. It’s ridiculous how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. If you’ve got an iPhone, do yourself a favour and get this today while you can; I guarantee you’ll end up mixing in places you never thought you would!
Here’s the link to the iTunes store.
If you go and buy this today, please come back and let us know how you get on with it in the comments, or indeed if there’s another iPhone/iPod Touch DJ app you like to use.

I bought this ap on day one from the Ap store and now I see it’s on sale for a buck! No worries, I love the ap and it is well worth the $10 I spent. I find myself chopping it up to pass the time EVERYWHERE!
[ link ]I had the DJay Remote already so, the stand alone ap doesn’t really appeal to me.
But for $1 (JPY115 hough), I said, oh well…actually, I just installed it now and f*cking hell…the UI is nice, just like the Mac version. Thumbs up!
Now, what am I gonna do with DJay Remote?!
Anyway, I installed it on iPhone 3Gs (iOS 4) and used Airplay to stream the music to my home sound system. Maybe it’s the CPU problem of iPhone 3Gs, but there is a certain delay hitting play and the actual playing or stopping of the music in the amplifier.
[ link ]Also, everything seems slow, but maybe this is because of the low spec 3Gs…would be interesting to know how it run on iPhone 4!
I have it for the iPhone 4 and it works perfectly. No delays or latency at all. I’m not a DJ, I want to be and I am using this to practice on until I get the Vestax spin controller for Djay on my MacBook pro.
[ link ]Play a party with it! Go on, do it!
[ link ]Nah, I think it’s a function of AirPlay. I might be wrong – is it not just buffering? I think AirPlay is good for automixing but as you’ve discovered, not very good for real mixing. It would feel like DJing in a club with no monitor and the main speakers a long way away!
[ link ]Maybe it’s Airplay, as the sound of incoming SMS alarm is also delayed.
[ link ]But also the 3Gs CPU, as analyzing song and other UI movement within the app is slowed.
Thanks for heads up. Just bought that app. Gonna be spinning on the subway soon.
[ link ]I have played two parties using my iPad/iPhone and this app. It worked absolutely fine! These weren’t real gigs, just parties where I grew tired of the music and no one was dancing. The first time around, I only had my iPhone 4, but I plugged it into an amp and played a 2-hour mix that brought everyone back to the floor. It worked much better than expected, though the BPM dialog was a bit hidden so many times I didn’t beatmatch. The second time around, I was asked by the host to bring my iPad in case something similar happened. It did, and I played a fast electro house mix for about 2 hours while I was there. It works absolutely fine! It has supports for cue-points and looping, and also aids in scratching by automatically shifting the crossfader when you place two fingers on a virtual record. I was able to quickly mashup a song and add a buildup using the quick-loop feature by dragging my finger from 4 beats to 2 beats all the way to 1/32, and then releasing. It’s a pretty sick piece of tech, and I think in some circumstances (house parties, weddings, corporate events) it might serve as everything a mobile DJ needs.
[ link ]Got this a few weeks ago for my 3Gs, unfortunately the CPU is too slow for me to get it to work properly (experienced some audio dropouts aswell) but I’m about to get an iPad, is it possible to use apps I bought for my phone on that or do I have to buy them again?
[ link ]Btw, awesome blog, got my first controller-based gig coming up in a few weeks and you guys have been a great part in helping me do the switch!
It’s a different program on the iPad so you’d have to buy it again.
[ link ]i saw this article and quickly bought the iphone version for my ipad. it’s limited in a few areas: doesn’t have the 1.1 updates that the ipad version has like multi-cue points – but it’s 99 cents!
theres a 2x buttons bottom right of your ipad where you can make it bigger (though it looks a little pixelated as a result) but it’s 99 cents!
i’d love an update to the iphone/ipod version and maybe some really basic fx to play with – just a delay and filter would be nice.
a “controller style layout” would be cool. but then they would sell it as a whole new app. anyway, can’t beat what it does for 99 cents – did i mention that already?
