Numark's N4: Basically, Mixtrack Pro with extra inputs and two more mixer channels. (Click to enlarge.)
Numark today announced a brand-new DJ controller, the N4, which appears to be basically a variation on its immensely popular Mixtrack controller, but with four channels and the ability to add external music sources like CD players and turntables.
The controller will come with a four-channel version of Virtual DJ, along with Serato’s new DJ Intro software – although it appears the latter will only be able to control two software channels.
However, the controller is configurable so that two of its four channels can control external CD players or vinyl decks, so even with the Serato software, it could make a cost-effective centrepiece to a hybrid home DJ set-up, assuming its pricing is as agressive as Mixtrack’s is.
The unit gets its official launch at the BPM Show this weekend. We’ll bring you a full review as soon as we’ve had a chance to have a proper test run.
Do you think Numark has hit the nail on the head with this new, all-purpose entry level four-channel controller? Would you be tempted to go for this rather than one of the more expensive hybrid units? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

A true entry-level 4 deck controller? Interesting.. both that and the new Serato software.
[ link ]What’s the difference to the NS6?
[ link ]Software package to start with (NS6 has Serato ITCH), and also build quality – it will be consumer, plastic build unlike the NS6 which is pro quality.
[ link ]When will it available to buy in guitar center
[ link ]Very very impressed with Numark, puling out all of the stops for BPM. Kudos to Pioneer though for actually improving on the Ergo. Numark wins, for me.
[ link ]Interesting…it looks ideal for the guys who don’t want to shell out $1000+ for a new controller.
[ link ]Price point estimated to be under 500$, looks promising hope the chasis isnt all plastic.
[ link ]I’m sure it will be all plastic.
I’m not expecting a metal build in a cheaper entry-level controller.
[ link ]Between this and the Mixtrack Pro also supporting Serato Intro I’m very happy with Numark right now.
[ link ]Looks very interesting. I had the Mixtrack and was very happy with it but I didn’t like the build, but for something with all these features it could be something to overlook especially for your mobile gig.
[ link ]I’ve been looking for a entry level controller lately and this definitely looks like it will be at the top of the list. Looking forward to the review.
[ link ]I have on good source that they’re gonna be
[ link ]399 Euros each, starting to mail in december.
That’s like 530$. Cheapest 4 channel mixing, 4 effect knobs.
I have to say i’m dying to get my hands onto this thing.
anyone have any ideas about the pricing? just bought a mixtrack pro but would def be willing to sell it and buy this if the price was $X<$400. looks so nice!
[ link ]Not yet, but I’d reckon around US$500-550.
[ link ]Just a question, whats the big deal with plastic or not? If all the so called “pro build” controllers where made of plastic but had the same junk inside would it not be pro quality still? I guess I just dont understand what the outside material has to do with it. I mean are we throwing these things around the room? Maybe they should make them out of carbon fiber and aluminum. Just my opinion.
[ link ]Plastic isn’t an issue, it’s whether the controls are pro-grade, whether they’re screwed to a metal top plate or soldered directly to the chassis, etc. etc. Stuff made to a price will break under pro use much faster than pro gear. the Novation Twitch and Kontrol S4 are mainly plastic but have pro-grade components, for instance.
[ link ]any idea on a release date yet phil??
[ link ]No, not yet…
[ link ]Hi phil got a quick question i have being waiting for the Numark N4 to come out i like the whole idea, i current use a hercules rmx would getting a N4 be a step backward. lastly would the N4 be good enough to use in bar/clubs etc
[ link ]As far as pro quality goes, the N4 is no better than the RMX, in fact it’s more plasticky. As far as fun to use goes, it smashes it due to the better jogs and more modern features overall. It’s no better or worse for club play than the RMX, but probably not as sturdy in the long run. If you want “pro”/club quality 100%, the NS6 is the one, but obviously it comes at a premium.
[ link ]Hm… if it’s 500$, I’m more likely to get a twitch.
[ link ]Can someone tell me when this will be outi mean the Numark N4
[ link ]when is this available!!!!!
[ link ]Not sure yet
[ link ]do you know the release date of the n4 ?
[ link ]i rang up deck.co.uk and they said they think the n4 will be released on 15th of december
[ link ]Hi, do you any new information regarding the release of the n4? yhankyou
[ link ]All we know is in the next few weeks.
[ link ]It is released today apparently – yeah, just checked on djkit & it is showing as ‘in stock’.
[ link ]AND the title is Numark N4 4-Channel Digital DJ Controller **IN STOCK** – seems like they *may* be telling the truth (e.g. order by 22nd to get delivery for xmas) – rather than the usual “in stock” claims where they claim it’s in stock a few days/weeks before it’s due, just to get your order.
[ link ]Being a musician who’s looking to transition into DJ’ing I found the Numark Mixtrack series only having two tracks severely limited the things I wanted to try out, even out of the box. I am really looking to create live mash ups, which means I need to have 1 track for vocals, 2 for music loops and then the bonus track is just nice to have. This controller could be the one for me to start out on.
