Sennheiser Amperior
The Sennheiser Amperior headphones: Good for DJ booth, good for iPod too.

Here’s a pair of headphones that definitely cross the DJ/lifestyle divide, and which will – I predict – have many a style-conscious pro digital DJ reaching for their wallet. These are basically the legendary Sennheiser HD-25ii DJ headphones (trusted by DJs for as long as I can remember), given a paint job and some minor tweaks for the digital age.

Technically, they’re pretty much exactly the same as the HD-25s, save for one thing: More sensitivity. They now come in snazzy metallic blue or grey rather than matt black, and instead of sporting leather ear padding, there’s a velour / felt-feel material. While there was absolutely no need to alter this as far as DJs were concerned (the HD-25s are plenty sensitive enough), Sennheiser decided that for low-powered modern MP3 players – think iPod Shuffles and the like – it was worth giving them a lower impedance for that bit of extra “umph” (that’s a technical term, by the way).

The bottom line is that these have always been a desirable headphone (and always had a the price tag to match, of course), but now for DJs who want only one pair of phones for all their listening, they’re more appealing than ever.

Price: US$349

Have you always been tempted by the HD25s and if so, might these sway you to shell out for a pair? Or do you think DJ headphones are just for DJing? Let us know your thoughts below!
