The Lowdown

This is a great stand. It’s light, portable, simple to put up and take down, elegant and attractive. It’s unadjustable which may be a turn off for some DJs, but If you need a pro stand that’ll last a long time and that you can carry around easily, look no further.

First Impressions / Setting up

They’re good. It’s made of high-quality silver-painted metal and is a simple design in three joined parts with two folds. It comes in a nylon stitched bag with a sturdy zip, and when folded down is extremely compact. It is also very light, so it’s overall highly portable.

Magma Traveler
How’s that for tiny? The Magma Traveler laptop stand folds to under an inch in width, and will easily fit in your laptop bag alongside your Dj laptop.

Every part of the bottom and the top is covered in padded foam grip material to stop the stand slipping when assembled and to hold your gear firmly when it’s in place. Every section is screwed tightly with two sets of three screws to the next section, and the hinges have high-quality domed bolts and washers. There are also two hand tighteners for the bottom hinge, to hold it tightly in place when assembled.

Overall, the design is simple and unfussy, and the materials and construction quality are good.

In Use

I set it up on a glass surface and on a lacquered wooden surface, names the office desk and the workshop deck table, and used it over a couple of weeks to really put it through its paces. The stand is fixed position. There’s no adjusting of anything – height, angle – it’s all as-is. That means that the only real adjustment you’re going to have is the angle of your laptop screen.

It is very strong and sturdy in use – I felt utterly confident putting and using a MacBook Air on it, but also it took a Vestax VCI-380 with absolute ease and little “wobble”. It is completely stable “sideways”, but also surprisingly so up and down, with practically no “give” from the sturdy metal frame.

Conclusion

This is a great stand. It’s light, portable, simple to put up and take down, elegant and attractive.

Magma Traveler folded
The Magma Traveler folded. It can easily fit next to your laptop in its bag.

True, it’s not adjustable, which will be a deal breaker for some, but the plus point of that is its simplicity and strength – and as I mentioned above, if you’re using it with a laptop, you can still adjust the screen to suit (and move the stand left/right of course).

It also has the advantage of being well priced. On measure, I think it’s the best overall DJ laptop stand I’ve used, and it’s found a place in my DJ bag. I like how small it is folded down, and the fact it comes with a bag.
