Learn How To DJ With Digital DJ Gear

NAMM 2013: Pioneer Outs Platinum Edition Gear

Limited edition Pioneer gear, for the DJ who has it all…

The picture says it all really – Pioneer has outed a limited run of some of its pro gear in extremely shiny platinum, with white LEDs to complement.

The gear comprises the CDJ-2000NXS-M, DJM-900NXS-M and RMX-1000-M, available in Europe as a complete set including a stand for the RMX-1000, for the not insubstantial fee (here in Europe, at least) of €7,499 / £5,999.

Pioneer is bundling some premium cables with the limited run 4,000 units, and to whip up demand among the rich and/or successful DJs the gear is likely to appeal to, there’s a performance video from James Zabiela. The rest of us can dream…

  3. Ugh.

I can see the marketing meeting now.
‘EDM is huge in the states yeah’

    Exec’Yeah go on’

‘Miami especially with all of the table service etc’

Exec ‘yeah yeah’ wetting his pants

‘Well how’s about a platinum version of our gear for all of the DJ’s that get to actually play at club’s'*

Exec’ and we charge way over the top for exactly the same gear, but with PLATINUM’

*referring to the spate Excellent DJ’s being thrown off the decks after some douche waves cash to get them off.

Such products and limited runs and really nice, but also really from the past. These price ranges reflect budgets from the very far past. I mean, we’re in the middle of a recession, and they are trying to sell complete sets for 7.000+ euros??

These guys at Pioneer really need a reality check, otherwise they will drive the company down to a cliff. The fact that they are left alone in the upper class doesn’t mean they will sell also.

Or maybe they’ve spotted something that we are missing? Maybe this trend of the superstar DJ in the US is even bigger than we think over here in Europe and such prices are justifiable by sales?

Here dat! But this recycling of current gear in a new guise is clearly aimed at those who are bored with the look of their current setup and have deep pockets. Given that this is probably a limited edition plan, I doubt if Pioneer are too concerned if there is not a rush of sales for this as, the ‘normal’ editions of their high end DJ products (and not forgetting other products; ICE, home cinema etc) will for the foreseeable future take care of them. But as someone has said to me: “No one forces you to buy it though…”

I would love to agree with you, but I don’t think they will have any trouble finding 4000 people who are doing fine enough during this recession and will spend the 7500e.

Even at this over-expensive price, these 4000 units won’t be making most of Pioneer’s profit. I guess this is just a way for them to ensure their image of a “highest quality hardware”. Just like Razer or Monster putting gold on their cable plugs…

Do they sound platinum? They look nice for the rest waste of time and money I guess…
Next year the CDJ3000 NXS and the DJM 900 NXS MKII arrives and those things are done, and will be sold for a nice second hands price. Because in the high roller market everything has to be shiny and state of the art.

Nothing is going to save the almost obsolete cd. Hence this latest offering fom Pioneer is a fantastic headstone to place on the grave of our music past.
If I had one of these (in my dreams even!) I’d be terrfied of getting it nicked!
Superstar DJ’s may well wear this offering, but they will not be totally reliant on it’s limited functions.
Onward marches the humble, often plastic, but all conquering laptop midi controler.

My God, if you have saved that amount then keep goin and buy a house lol. It’s times like this that make me think we should all switch to Denon or ‘anything’ else!

Actually got to play with a x1700 the other night and i was well impressed with the quality and the feel of the thing compared to my 900 and I bloody paid more for it!

At what point do we start to realize that these guys are taking the piss aswell as our money! You know what I mean?

Tbh: In my eyes this looks like “Nightfever” or discoball style seventies shit. Probably you have to wear a shirt full of glitter and sequins and some bell-bottoms to DJ with this.

  13. Brian Barr says:

Is this price really too insane? I mean, the CDJs+mixer cost like 7 grand MSRP and the RMX is like another $800?

  14. Dj 8X says:

Oh wow…what a surprise. I was never expecting a color change of already released gear…and to think EVERYONE WILL be able to see these…for there is no such thing as a DJ booth concealing gear.

  15. David says:

They should laser engrave your name or logo on them for you too. :P

  21. Ok…. I liked the pioneer cdj 1000 decks when I first saw them released….and had the chance to play on them in the clubs…. In comparison to denon at the time who were actually leading the front of the wave they were pretty exellent decks…. Then came the CDJ 2000′s and though they were very expensive I saw a lot of guys take the plunge and go into dept on a set of decks that would never pay for themselves via actual working time…. And the button switches and lazers would give….. The decks themselves would get blemished and the resale market on them wasn’t the same as when I bought and sold my set of technics 1200 mk5 g’s(I still kick myself when I see what they sell for now)….. But…. They were solid… Think about how often you burn out a lazer in your home DVD player with Sony guts….. They always need adjusted and repaired…. Or worse off replaced….. So fast forward to today in a time when Midi and HID control 98% of all DJ software…. Using a set of out dated components seems very backwards to me…. If you have to use CDJ’s? It is way more cost effective to get something with more features for less money….. Like denons… Or even the worst Stanton decks will give you way more options for a fraction of the cost…. Bla bla record box…. Bla bla HID support in Traktor…Serato…VDJ….Unnecessary uses for an over priced piece of gear that will break down and become land fill….. I will never look at pioneer the same way even if every one swears by them because in a practical world they are pushing an outdated concept for way too much money that I personally would spend on upgrading my Mac products so I can continue to record my real songs…. Not play other people’s and try to pass it off as if I’m the guy who’s doing anything else but manipulating someone else’s canned music….. I watched in the late 80′s early 90′s when the whole world wanted to be the next superstar DJ…. You know what happened??? There were so many of us that in the end you couldn’t get booked to do real shows because everyone was doing it for cheap…. And the real stars were using mod trackers, acid pro, logic platinum and DAW software to make there mixes and release them on premixed cd’s that they would play on there CDj’s tryin to look cool like they were doing something new….. Guess what? It wasn’t new because king Dubby and lee scratch perry had already done it with dub plates in a way cooler fashion….. Pioneer get a clue…. Same with the rest of you…. The market will spike….your gonna see this happen in another ten years… Just like the return of disco/house/drum n’bass/metal/punk….. Don’t believe me? Just watch
