The Pioneer XDJ-Aero DJ controller has been launched – as is Pioneer’s way with its gear – in a white edition, just in time for the NAMM Show 2013.
Everything else remains identical about the unit, which is the first consumer DJ controller designed for use with the company’s rekordbox music library software.
As well as music on USB, the controller can also work with music stored on a whole range of rekordbox-enabled devices, such as smartphones and iOS/Android devices.
Free rekordbox apps are available for these devices on their respective app stores, and the XDJ-Aero them communicates with the devices wirelessly.
Have you bought an XDJ-Aero? How do you find it? Do you think wireless DJing is a good idea, or a non-starter? And what are your views on rekordbox? Please share your thoughts below.

don’t like the color of the latest Pioneer gear? wait few weeks
[ link ]I bought an XDJ aero not long after they came out, and i’m seriously impressed by it.
So many people think that the whole wireless thing means that you have to have all your music on your phone, but that is not the case.
I plug in my usb stick and use my phone or tablet to load tracks into either deck, rather than using the tiny screen on the unit itself. This means that a loss in wifi connectivity doesn’t matter
what this unit actually does is allows me to prepare and play my tracks with rekordbox at home and be able to use cdj2000 nexus at any venue, without spending thousands on such an elaborate setup…. for me it’s about the music at the end of the day, not what it’s played on.
cons: have problems connecting/loading tunes from my laptop (win 7) wirelessly.
no hot cues (yet)
no wave form (hopefully will come in a later release of rekordbox, and will be visible via the app)
[ link ]I am considering buying this unit to avoid buying and lugging around a pricey laptop, I only wish it had waveforms and hot cues. What if the club or party you are playing at doesn’t have the nexus cdj’s to drop your rekord box prepaired tracks to? That is if you don’t want to burn CDs or whatever your playing on doesnt take a USB? 95% of djs play from there laptops and therefore the set up at most gigs are geared towards that. Or am I wrong? I’m only asking because if I need to buy a laptop down the road then I may as well just buy a controller that works with traktor or serato now and drop the idea of this aero? Any advice would be great!
