The clue's in the wording: 'mic through' means the unit doesn't actually send the mic to your computer at all.

Digital DJ Tips reader Stefan has a problem that can occur with lots of DJ controllers. He writes: “I have the Numark Mixtrack Pro and I do a weekly live mix on Mixify and I want to be able to speak via a microphone which is plugged into my Mixtrack Pro. I am having problems with the microphone input on my Mixtrack Pro, the microphone is not getting picked up by Traktor. What can I do?”

Digital DJ Tips says:

The microphone on the Mixtrack Pro is not fed to your computer or your DJ software at all. It’s simply routed straight to the outputs at the back of the unit, and so while the mic sound does comes out of your speakers, it won’t be present on your broadcast feed, as you’ve found out.

The easiest way to get around this would be to plug the output of your Mixtrack Pro into another laptop as an input, and broadcast from that. It is sometimes possible to feed the output of your DJ controller back into the same laptop in this way to save you using two, but it’s not simple to do.

Have you faced the issue of trying to get your DJ controller to feed external inputs into your software, for broadcasting or other reasons? How have you got round it, and have you had to use extra software or cables to do so? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
