    Hello my bassees and bassettes!

I just moved back home from uni, and.... welll.... i need gigs. Help plx.

When I was in uni, I used to play plenty of house parties, and a few gigs in my local alt nightclub. Bare in mind that I only started learning to DJ this year, so I'm still a bit of a novice. Anyway, the gigs in the nightclub i got because the nightclub was directly opposite my apartment, so I was always talking to the barstaff/manager/pr manager. I didn't have to do much promoting other than give him the link to my mixcloud. Easy.

Now that I'm back home, i don't think it's going to be that easy. I live in the suburbs, about 30 mins from the city centre. I need to play a gig, and soon. I'm itching for it, and considering i have 6 months off now, it's a perfect opportunity to improve my skills, and hopefuly make a few quids. Only problem is, I don't really know what is my best way to go about landing a few gigs. There certainly isn't a nightclub opposite my house. In the mean time, I'm trying my hand at making my own music, but i wanna DJ again. :(

So here's the million dollar question. Quickest, easiest way to land a gig? I'm in Dublin, Ireland if there happens to be any PR guys from there floating about on here (long shot)

    Peace,
    Twicx

Go to clubs/club nights you're interested in, get there early on the night and mingle with the promoters, DJs, managers etc. Have some demo's ready to hand out and ask for sets.

Steelo's right, you need to do exactly what you did before: "I was always talking to the barstaff/manager/pr manager..." - find a way to get to town 5 nights a week and get on with it.

Hows it goin buddy, theres a group of promotors called 'Mess'd Up Records' who put on a load of gigs in town (Dublin) and are always asking for people to send in mixes, lookin for local talent etc. You'd find them of Facebook or watever i'm sure, few of my mates have played for them and they're always on the lookout for Dj's, warm-up spots or watever. Mainly Techno i think, not sure wat style you play, but sure bang them in a mix and see wat happens?
    Best of luck

Failing that, totally agree with the lads here, get into the nites with a mix or 2 in your pocket and talk to Dj's, promotors, whoever, my gigging days are behind me now but got a few spots in town by just drunkenly approaching lads with a cd or watever :)

Oooooh this is very very very helpful!! I tried getting in contact with a few promoters in Dublin, but they haven't been helpful at all. I did manage to get a contact yesterday; a friend of a friend, but, he works in PR and said he knows a lot of the guys that do big student nights. I said I'd sort him out with a demo CD, but he said by the sounds of it, I'd be suited to one of the alt student nights, like Button Factory or ALT. Sounds good to me, it's the kind of gigs I like.

Cheers for the help though, if something comes up, I'll let you know.
