Everybody knows that you need good warm-up songs and tracks before laying down the main course in other words the hard hitting, crowd going wild tracks. So can anyone name some good warm up songs, although I prefer house and techno house, any other kind is totally fine as i am pretty open to anything.
It honestly depends on the crowd and venue. Warm-up for me is just darker, deeper, more abstract. In a mainstream spot it can also be older stuff that people are almost sick of.
Sometimes I'll take older house, acid, or trance tracks with somewhat lower energy to them and pitch them slightly down. One of the tracks I've done this quite a bit with is Flaming June (BT & PVD Mix). Then again, I'm not really all that experienced, soooo....
@ D- Jam: I def. know some tracks that people are indeed sick of, but yeah i guess deeper and darker is the way 2 go, and yes the crowd does play a big role, i mean, once summer season starts, even the warm up songs change the genre completely. @Fxn-L the song you suggested was addictive, i would even put it as a main course item for a gig, older house is the way to go since it's safe from where I see it (just my opinion, if other do tell!!) but using acid, hmmmm.. that will be something new for me, will try look for some good acid tracks where i can rub my creative cookie on it. still great advice from both of you guys, big thanks!!
Co-sign on "It depends on the crowd." A lot of the time, I do 4 hour parties/events. When people are just showing up, I start with drinking music and start bringing in stuff girls can dance to at a certain point depending on how the crowd builds. Apparently I'm in a weird continuum from most of the folks on this board. The first part of a party is also where I throw out songs I've gotten (and dig) but haven't tested yet in public. Sometimes, people have come back at later parties and asked me to play that music when a crowd's in.

awesome track emma, def. a must for deep house and a great warm-up, the soft vocals and beats will get some serious warming up on the floor, and hey- even the bartender will start shacking to the beat at the beginning of a great night. No "good lucks" for your next set, because with that taste of music (which gives a glimpse of your talent), you don't need any. muchas graziaz for the track.
depends on crowd/venue what they expect etc. But all that aside, I like warming up with nice melodic stuff. Some of kaskade's bootlegs he has on soundcloud for example or "step one two" (that song seems impossible to not dance to IMO.) Then I like to throw in something older, but well known, that will transition nicely into the hard hitting stuff. Better off alone mixed into the nanou remix of better off alone is one of my favorite transitions.

If you're into dubstep and its derivatives, my buddy opened his set at a recent club gig with this one: Pendulum - Witchcraft (Rob Swire's Drumstep Mix).
Haha, already have that one, I just love Pendulum!!! Funny thing I live in Milan, from where I see it, Dubstep doesn't Exist here. Only Techno, House, A few Trance and a lot of Italian Disco. But as you can see I already have the track you suggested, which explains that I got a decent wide Musical Horizon.

Why not just go onto beatport and trackitdown etc and find some music that you may find some good warm up tracks, or listen to DJ sets on Dancetrippin.tv or something? It's hard to tell you 'some good warm up' tracks because what i play at 11.30pm at my commercia weekend residency in the warm up is what i may play main set in my underground weekend residency at 2.00am. So it can vary mate
I would say that this is Definitely Not Dubstep Ash; It sounds like some kind of Electronica (whatever that is) to me; I Can hear a Slight Dubstep Drum Pattern; but it is Too Fast (I Feel)
First of all, I want you to know that I LOVE she, and major props for posting it. I wouldn't categorize it as dubstep for several reasons. The biggest being that it's got a four-on-the-floor for most of the song, with the kickdrum hitting every beat. Given the overall sound of the song on top of that lends itself to be called some kind of house. However, because I know she uses old school video game sound samples (8-bit sounds via GameBoy and computer) I know that it is actually called "chiptune". But there's definitely some downtempo ambient aspects to certain tracks as well as some house elements used in his more dance-y tracks as well. It's what sets him apart from other chiptune artists like Dubmood and Shirobon. Hope that helps you get the library categorized! Off-topic: One of my favorites by she - destination luna4. Even further off-topic: Another great chiptune artist who has more house/electro-y feel to his music is FantomenK, and he posts all of his music for free on 8bc.org. He's also got a YouTube channel with individual links to each song for download as well.

yeah I gotta say it really depends on the crowd - I mean what your primetime set genre is going to be like is a good indication of where you should start too - I gotta say I play one hole in the wall bar pretty often (drinks are free, I get a little cash and the bartender is pretty hot) and it stays dead for a great chunk of the night so all I'm really playing is downtempo bob your head type stuff - but it'll change depending on who I see walk through the door possibly indie hip hop, some old soul and funk, maybe even some jazz classics if the right crowd comes through. The recent article about opening DJs does have a lot of good tips though for what your warm up set should be focused around.
I was going to suggest soul/funk/disco/and some hip-hop tracks under 120bpm, but like others have said - it depends on your style and the audience your dealing with that night.
