Reader James Perez in Dublin, California writes: “I have a question about my equipment. I’ve been spinning for about five years now, and I recently bought the Numark NS7. It’s great, but I’m now at the age of trying to break into the bar scene, and most DJs are telling me I won’t be able to use it and should try to get familiar with vinyl players.

“I’m now wondering if I should sell my NS7 and just invest in some Stantons or Technics, just to get familar with the equipment that’s at the bars.”

Serato has released Serato ITCH 1.7, the latest version of its flagship DJ controller software. The software is specially designed to work with Serato ITCH-certified DJ controllers in a tight software / hardware integration environment. Compatible controllers include the Vestax VCI-300, Numark NS7 and Allen & Heath Xone:DX.

Serato ITCH 1.7 adds a number of much-requested feature in the shape of beat grids, initial key display and limiter functionality, and also fixes bugs and optimises in a number of areas. This new version of Serato ITCH has actually been available as a public beta for a few weeks, but has now passed all tests and been released officially for general download.
