    Hi

I currently have a controller that needs the laptop to use with just rca’s output. from the controller it is connected to a PA mixer then it connects to the speakers from trs to xlr. I am going to buy a standalone controller to use without the laptop and it does have xlr outputs. Should I connect the speakers directly to the controller or use the same PA mixer? Does the PA mixer degrade sound quality compared to the speakers connected directly to the controller?

    Thanks

It would depend on the quality of the PA mixer, but a lot of people like to keep that PA mixer in the chain between the controller and speakers just for a little extra volume and eq control. If your PA mixer is of good quality – I’d say keep using it.

The mixer is an alto zmx 862. It’s pretty decent.

It’s also good for backup purposes. Hook up your iPad/iPhone/Android phone/tablet with a mix ready to play. Something happens with the controller, just hit play on the phone/tablet and open the fader on the PA mixer and you are off to the races.

I have a DDJ-sb2 that only does rca. I used the rca to 1/4 to a mixer or rca to xlr straight to the mixer without any problems

Yep, something like this would help:
