They weren’t at the BPM Show, but that hasn’t stopped Hercules from announcing two new DJ controllers. Dubbed the DJ Control AIR S and the DJ Control AIR + S, they are redesigns of models that have been in the company’s “AIR” series of controllers for a while now. Both are two-channel controllers that have an onboard interface, eight velocity sensitive pads, and two pressure-sensitive jogwheels, although the jogs on the DJ Control Air + S are larger. The main feature on both of these controllers is “Air control”, which converts hand gestures made above the unit into Midi data without having to touch any controls.
Though it may seem gimmicky at first, the Air control feature on these controllers can ultimately be useful depending on how you map it to your DJ app of choice. The package includes Hercules’ DJUCED software (DJUCED 18° for AIR S, DJUCED 40° for AIR + S), so if you want to use it with other DJ software like Traktor, you’re going to have to find a mapping online or make one yourself.
• The Hercules DJ Control AIR S retails for €149 while the DJ Control AIR + S retails for €229, and both will be available in late September 2014.
