Making Music by Ableton
Ableton has just published its first book of techniques on the music production process.

Ableton has just released a book on music production called Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies For Electronic Music Producers. Written by sound designer and composer Dennis DeSantis, the book is a hardbound collection of tips, techniques, and most importantly, questions to ask yourself during the entire music production process. It aims to solve issues producers face when making a song from start to finish, fucussing on the creative process rather than the nuts and bolts of the software.

It’s interesting (but hardly surprising) that the company who makes one of the world’s most popular music production platforms has come out with something like this. And while of course it’s more than likely that this book will be riddled with Ableton Live tips (DeSantis being head of documentation over at Ableton), the advice here isn’t exclusive to Live or any other digital audio workstation for that matter. Instead, it aims to be a “best practices” reference that both aspiring and veteran producers can turn to time and time again for inspiration or when they’re stuck.

• Making Music: 74 Creative Strategies For Electronic Music Producers is available exclusively at the Ableton website for US$30. Check out the Making Music microsite for sample chapters.
