Rekord Buddy used to offer a way to do what our reader is asking, but it’s currently unavailable.

Reader Ryan Graham asks: “I have been using Traktor for the last couple of years and I have just bought a new XDJ-RX controller to use with Rekordbox. Is there a way of transferring cue points and tags from Traktor to Rekordbox to save me having to do it all manually?”

Digital DJ Tips says:

The short answer is no. (That’s why we generally advise: Choose your software first, and stick with your choice.)

The slightly longer answer is that actually, yes, there is a product out there that’ll help you. It’s called Rekord Buddy and is designed to do just this. The trouble is that it is no longer available pending the arrival of Rekord Buddy 2.0 – but we don’t know when that will be. This is the latest from Next Audio, the home of Rekord Buddy:

“The last 2.0 private beta is about to be shipped out to testers. If this goes well, a public beta program will be started and will be opened to Rekord Buddy 1.x users. When the public beta is deemed good enough to ship, the app will be made available for purchase and released.”

Actually, it appears Rekord Buddy is going to support Rekordbox, Traktor, Serato, Mixed in Key and The One, so users of any of these programs would potentially be able to use it to transfer data between them – but we haven’t seen it, so we’re not saying when it’ll appear or how good it’ll be. Also note it’ll only be OSX at first.
