“Afrojack On Underground Vs Mainstream” – Episode 5 Of Our DJ School Vlog Is Here

Here’s the fifth part of my new 40-part weekly Learn to DJ vlog, where I’m sharing the journey as we make something brand new called “The Complete DJ Course” – the most ambitious DJ tutorial course Digital DJ Tips has ever offered to its students.

In the vlog I’ll share extra little secrets, nuggets and surprising insights, aside from what will eventually be in the course. Week 5… Underground versus the Mainstream

While last week’s vlog was form New York City and Serato’s studio there, this week I recorded the vlog in my living room, just after watching “What We Started”, the EDM film featuring Carl Cox and Martin Garrix among others.

It’s an entertaining (if, in my opinion, flawed) film, but one section that I loved was a debate about underground vs mainstream music.

Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Dubfire and others present the usual case for “the underground” – then Afrojack (a man whose music isn’t to my taste, by the way – but that’s not the point here) blows it all apart with some great insight.

He articulates how I’ve always felt about music, and what we try and teach here at Digital DJ Tips better than I’ve ever managed to say it.

I’ll let you in on it in the video – but you should definitely see the film when you can.

(When you do, look out for the post-rave dancers in a field answering the question, “Are you ever going to stop dancing?” – it’s comedy gold!)
