Sick of seeing banner ads in your browser? Instead of installing another ad blocker, try this musical solution: AIAIAI, creators of the TMA-2 headphone, has teamed up with Danish producer duo Kenton Slash Demon to create AbEXP, a Google Chrome extension that turns banner ads into clickable visuals that you can play music and effects from.

The way it works is you install it in your Chrome browser as an extension. The next time you see an ad, AbEXP automatically turns it into a minimal greyscale image (it kind of looks like a TV screen without an aerial, for everyone over the age of 35) that you can mouse over and play music from, as well as manipulate with FX.

We think it’s a fun and creative way to make music instead of seeing another pesky, targeted ad served by Google. It’s also a not-so-gentle reminder that we’re being marketed to with ads more often than we realise. With AbEXP, at least you can make music out of them.
