You read that right folks: Reason, the synth and sound design powerhouse digital audio workstation, now works as a plugin inside your DAW of choice. This means you can use any of Reason’s software synthesisers, drum machines, samplers and effects with Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, FL Studio, Pro Tools and more. It comes by way of the Reason Rack Plugin, which is a feature found in Reason 11, the public beta of which has just been released.

Reason 11 will be released on 25 September 2019 and will come in three flavours: the entry level Reason Intro, the standard Reason, and Reason Suite which will have all the bells and whistles.

This is going to be awesome news for DJ/producers and sound designers alike: Reason has always been a robust DAW thanks to its unmatched configurability (eg you get to “plug” devices however you want using its graphical rack interface). It’s one of the first DAWs I used, starting with its predecessor ReBirth, but its sequencing interface always felt a bit clunky for me. Being able to access virtually all the sounds and effects Reason has to offer inside of Ableton means I can do my sequencing within Ableton while doing my sound design in Reason. Sounds like a win-win scenario to me.
