Amazon Joins The HD Music Streaming Wars

TIDAL isn’t the only high definition streaming service in town anymore – Amazon just announced Amazon Music HD, a subscription music streaming service that lets you listen to over 50 million songs in CD quality sound (44.1kHz / 16-bit), along with millions more in what it calls “Ultra HD” (192kHz / 24-bit) which is supposed to sound better than CD quality.

Plans start at US$12.99/month for Amazon Prime members, and if you’re already subscribed to Amazon Music, it’s just an additional US$5/month. To compare, TIDAL also has a high-definition streaming subscription plan called TIDAL HiFi which comes in at $19.99/month.

While Amazon Music isn’t available as a streaming option in DJ software just yet, it’s not far-fetched to think that at some point in the future a DJ app might have some kind of integration with it, considering how massive Amazon is as an online store (though not as a music streaming provider, it being considered simply as an alternative to more mainstream choices like Spotify, Apple Music and TIDAL).

Of course this is all conjecture at this point – what’s cool is that as HD music streaming is becoming more and more feasible, low-quality streams may be a thing of the past and all of us DJs and music lovers stand to benefit from it.
