Denon DJ just announced a public beta firmware update for its Prime 4 all-in-one standalone system. Now at version 1.4, the update lets you access the internet via Ethernet connection or WiFi so you can connect to and DJ with music from the TIDAL music streaming service. TIDAL is the first of several streaming service integrations that will arrive on the Prime 4. TIDAL music streaming is set to make an appearance on the SC5000 Prime and SC5000M Prime media players as well in the near future.
TIDAL is part-owned by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and features over 60 million songs, and is one of the few streaming services that offers high-resolution music streaming. You can access this via the TIDAL HiFi subscription, and all Prime Series owners and public beta group members get a free three-month subscription.
It’s awesome to see music streaming trickling down from DJ software to professional DJ hardware. We’ve said it time and again that streaming will play a huge role in digital DJing’s future, and we’re inching ever closer to that vision. We’re keeping a close eye on what other streaming services will join TIDAL as the months roll by – will we finally see music streaming become a thing in DJ booths? Only time will tell…
