There’s a lot of interest in Virtual DJ right now as a DJ platform, not least because its ability to separate stems in real time has opened up a mass of creative possibilities for DJs, from instant mashups to acapella extraction and more.

Now it is possible to convert your DJ library from any other major platform, such as Traktor, Rekordbox and Serato, to Virtual DJ, using DJ Conversion Utility software (Mac only).

The software has always allowed conversion from Virtual DJ, but until now conversion has not been possible in the other direction.

The maker of DJ Conversion utility has also announced improvements to the way it converts to Serato. Unlike before, it now offers the option to convert playlists directly to Serato crates. (Before, they were converted to iTunes/Music playlists.)

About DJCU

DJ Conversion Utility (DJCU to its friends) offers a method of converting your DJ database – playlists, cue points, loops and more – from one DJ platform to another. It saves having to remake those things if you need to DJ on another platform, or want to make a permanent switch.

Be warned that this is a somewhat technical affair, not least because the software treats Rekordbox as its “central” app, so unless the conversion is to or from Rekordbox, there will always be two steps involved – but it is possible, it works, and it is a whole lot easier than doing it all manually.
