Denon DJ Moves To Reassure MCX8000 Buyers Over Software Changes

Owners of Denon DJ’s flagship MCX8000 controller need not worry that they’ll be left behind as the company develops new software for its latest SC5000 Prime media player, we have been told. The reassurance follows disquiet among MCX8000 owners since Engine Prime was announced as not compatible with the Engine software version their units use.

We were asked by several Digital DJ Tips members – who were worried that Denon DJ’s announcements about its new Engine Prime platform would mean that MCX8000 owners would not get much-hoped for improvements to their software – to reach out for a statement. Paul Dekeyne, Denon DJ product manager, got back to us over the weekend with the following:

“We want to reassure our loyal and invested Denon DJ MCX8000 users that we are absolutely continuing to support this product. ‘Engine’ desktop software is currently being updated by our Development Team to incorporate DJ performance features, plus [the] music-management workflow capabilities of ‘Engine Prime’. This will ensure our MCX8000 users have an even more enhanced creative, and standalone workflow on their MCX8000.”

That would seem to indicate that Denon DJ is planning to develop Engine (for its MCX8000) and Engine Prime (for its “pro booth” equipment line) concurrently, which would make sense, seeing the MCX8000 is still a relatively young controller. We’d say take them at their word, and put the confusion down to an unfortunate bit of PR wording/timing from Denon DJ’s in the hustle and bustle of a big product launch.
