With Apple cancelling iTunes (and announcing its replacement in the form of a streamlined Music app), new software are likely to spring in its wake, such as this one: Audio is a forthcoming music management app from the founder of DJ set streaming site Chew.tv. It lets you manage and make playlists of songs in various formats, including FLAC, WAV and MP3. You can even import your iTunes playlists straight to Audio for easy migration.
Audio stores your music in native folders on your hard drive instead of proprietary file libraries (eg iTunes Library XML) so that means you can easily sync your music across computers via iCloud, Dropbox and other cloud storage services.
While Apple’s upcoming Music app aims to provide a simpler music management experience and it’s likely that iTunes users on MacOS will just switch on over to that, it’s good to know that there are available alternatives too. It looks very similar to iTunes minus the folders for other media like podcasts and video – it kind of feels a bit like a throwback to the iTunes of yore. Interestingly, a “stretch goal” for this campaign is to develop an iPadOS and iOS version of Audio too.
