Serato’s latest release of Serato DJ – Serato DJ 1.6, which hit the company’s site for download overnight – offers a huge host of new features and compatibilities, with Rane hardware support, Traktor-like Quantise and exciting new plugins the headline features.
We’ve reported on the beta before, but let’s reiterate how much is new here for Serato users:
On the software side, there’s support for the Pitch ‘N Time DJ expansion pack (a well regarded time-stretching program), Quantise, and the Jet Pack FX expansion pack, plus nameable cue points, the latter being something that many people have been vocal about wanting for quite a while. (Bear in mind that you’ll have to buy the expansion packs separately, with Pitch ‘N Time DJ costing US$29, and the Jet Pack expansion pack coming in at US$19.)
On the hardware side, there’s Rane hardware support (SL2, SL3, SL4, Sixty-One, Sixty-Two, Sixty-Four, Sixty-Eight) support for the new Pioneer DDJ-SZ (Serato DJ) and Denon DJ MC6000MKII & Reloop Terminal Mix 8 (Serato DJ Intro) DJ controllers, and a legacy nod with support for the Numark V7 too.
Other changes (there are plenty) include Pioneer CDJ-900 and Denon DN-HC1000S accessory support, Stack View Mode, the ability to open and close crates from hardware, and improvements to the cue point and loops display area. OS X Mavericks 10.9 support is now official, too.
This release seems a significant one, pushing the software at full speed toward’s the Serato’s goal of one unified, customisable program operating across all of its hardware platforms.
