Denon DJ just announced a new beta firmware update for its Prime series. Called Engine Embedded v1.4 Beta 2, the update unlocks the WiFi capabilities of the SC5000 Prime and SC5000M Prime media players, letting DJs stream music via TIDAL when spinning on these devices.

They now join the Denon DJ Prime 4 all-in-one standalone system as hardware units capable of accessing a streaming service without the need for a laptop computer or additional kit. Owners also get three months of TIDAL for free so they can try out the service.

TIDAL is part-owned by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and features over 60 million songs, and is one of the few streaming services that offers high-resolution music streaming. You can access this via the TIDAL HiFi subscription.

We’ve said it time and again that streaming will play a huge role in digital DJing’s future, and we’re inching ever closer to that vision. If you own any Prime gear and would like to try this out, check out the link below to download and install the beta.

• Check the Denon DJ site for the firmware update.
