Advice for Laptop Stand
December 20, 2013 at 9:09 am #1020891
I have tried to search but without the function it is a bit too slow.
I am looking for a Laptop stand to work with Mixtrack Pro II (mainly home use). I currently have a laptop stand that you would see in an office, so the feet son’t go under the controller and it is awkwardly at the side.
I have looked online and the Numark stand seems over priced and other stands either seem stupidly expensive or less than £20 with little in the middle.
I would rather pay £20 but would like some feedback from anyone that has stands. I would prefer it to be metal, but not 100% fussed and prefer black or chrome. Obviously needs to be very secure for my macbook pro (1 3inch) and it must not obscure the entire controller (I am sure that is how you choose to set it up anyway)

Well there are only 2 sorts of stands in my opinion and sadly what I found out:
The first is every laptop stand out there but the second. They all have some problem that you might be able to live with, but in the end they are all lacking in some categorie. The either wobble, take ages to assemble, will never again disassemble, will not be stable, will not be adjustable enough,… you name it.
The second sort is the Crane stand. Yes it is stupidly expensive. But is also is stupidly good build quality (why anyone in their mind would build that much craftmanship into a laptop stand is beyond me), is easily assembled, is super adjustable, can be used in limitless positions and can probably survive a small tactical nuke. So most DJs land with the Crane sometime or another, the question is simply how much money you waste on other stands before taking the dip… sadly I wasted loads of money…December 20, 2013 at 2:25 pm #1020925
I did see one of them and it made my wallet scream, so I just can’t justify such a spend right now. Wobbling would seriously annoy me though…it’s one of the reasons I thought to start this thread as I suspected there would be good feedback from people here that have actually used these things.
I am hoping someone out there has tried a cheaper stand that you missed somewhere along the way and says it is just perfect!December 20, 2013 at 8:14 pm #1020976DJ VintageModerator
You might want to check out the Magma Traveler. I know a certain well-known DJ website owner, who’s name shall not be known, that has written a good review about it on this very website.
Although by no means cheap, I think it is way cheaper than the Crane.

thanks vintage – that looks like just the thing from the video review…. definitely more than I hoped to pay, but it looks good enough to be very tempting.

Yeah, this is the kind of purchase you’ll look back on and think “it was a lot of money for me at the time but in the end worth every penny”, whereas if you get something for 30-40 bucks, you’ll end up getting the more expensive one after 4 months of disappointment with the cheaper one. Wishing you had never spent that 30-40.

Indeed, when I think about the times my laptop stand was giving me headaches and now since I have the Crane it is an absolute non-issue. Just come, set it up, rock solid, take it back home… just flawless.
I also used the Crane for over 2 years now on countless gigs and it does still look brand new and the levers still work the same setting I set it up the first day. So this thing is really well made and prolly will last many more years.
