    Hi all,

New to digital really – been on forum since it was restarted and had my mixtrack pro II a few weeks before that.  I use Serato DJ.

I have seen some vids and people talk about beatgrids but I am perplexed as to what people use them for, so people that use them please tell me when and why you use this feature.

    Thanks 🙂

    Well Beatgrid simply put is:

If the beatgrid is correct then the software will know when the beats are happening in a song. (Aka when the kickdrum beats and which beatcount it is).

Many features of the software depend on a beatgrid, for many most important the infamous SYNC button relies on it. But also some effects, slicer mode, BPM detection etc. etc. etc.

If you are using Serato you are in luck as with 90% of the tracks the beatgrid should be OK anyways and thanks to Serato’s “elastic beatgrid” it even holds true for songs with tempo changes. The others you can easily adjust, refer to your manual how…

Thanks for the reply.  I do use Serato and the SYNC function seems to do all that without the need for beatgrids.  I have the odd track that Serato doesn’t register the BPM, but simply typing it in manually seems to sort that immediately.

I guess I just don’t need to use it much for want to do.

Serato already did the beatgrid for you if the sync button is working 😉

Not doing it yourself does not mean it is not there … it is why the track take longer to load the first time you load them (aka waveform takes a bit longer to display fully) and then when you re-load them later the beatgrid will already be stored in the Serato Library…
