  • No no, the iPhone doesn’t connect to the Mixtrack, because if the computer goes down, so does the Mixtrack, and anything connected to it. The only reason you would need an external mixer is to switch between the iPhone and the Mixtrack. You need to connect the Mixtrack as deck A and the iPhone as deck B. Making sense?

It will work fine without the adapter/connector, it’s just that the connector is designed for this sort of thing, whereas the iPhone’s built-in sound output is designed to drive headphones.

If it’s a reasonably new one he should be able to use the laptop’s screen and throw the videos up on the other monitor (which might actually be a projector or something like that).

Woah, woah, wait. You don’t need a sound card. The Mixtrack Pro has one in it. I don’t see any way that a soundcard could help in this situation unless (for some strange reason) you want to use an external mixer for mixing and use the Mixtrack Pro only for the non-mixing functions (which seems a but silly to me).

As I understand it, you want to DJ with the Mixtrack, but you want the iPod available quickly if the computer crashes. If this is the case, then you will not need any external sound cards. If your venue has a mixer, you can use that and all you’ll need is a 3.5 mm to RCA cable (although that line-out adapter that Emma posted earlier looked like it might give a better sound). You just hook your Mixtrack Pro and iPod into two different channels on the venue mixer.

You always show up with useful links out of nowhere =D I don’t think he’ll need one of those though, most laptops already have an extra output or two (mine has both VGA and HDMI).

I’d go with something more than just DJ Mike. I use DJ Benny M but even that’s a little bit generic (although it works out alright on Google, not YouTube though).

What video? It was just the picture of the settings you need to set. The ones still covered by grey are up to you.

Oh, I get it. “VDJ video” meant VDJ video settings, not an actual video. Sorry for the confusion 😛

The Mixtrack pro is can be treated like a mixer when it comes to general use, but if the computer crashes the inputs won’t work. You’ll only need a proper hardware mixer if you want to run something else (like an iPod) into the system. Don’t buy one for home use, you won’t really need it. If you’re in a club situation, you will probably have the club’s mixer right there and you can just plug into that. That lineout accessory that Emma linked you to looks pretty good, I’d get one of those if I had an iPod.

Yeah, definitely. I was just saying that despite all the legal mumbo-jumbo a lot of artists don’t really care, they just want people to enjoy the music. That said, it’s mostly run by labels now-a-days, and the labels do care because they’re after money. I still support my favourite artists though.

    That’s the one!

More on the visualiser plugin: It looks like a video effect, but basically takes over from the video when activated. By setting up a plugin in the video settings, you can mix from videos into audio without suddenly removing all visual entertainment. Have fun!

Yeah, I had the same issue with my laptops internal card (I usually use the audio in my S4, but I didn’t have it at the time). Pretty sure changing the sampling rate fixed it. Best of luck!

True that, very true. Backup plans are always good.

I’ll probably still be asleep then, and I’m going to need some sleep before the events of this weekend (LAN PARTY WHOOO!!). Could you post the recording up for us, though?

If you’ll be running it all on the one computer, I’d think Serato+The Bridge would be the way to go. The level of integration displayed in the demo videos is just incredible. Ableton gets played like a deck too, so from the Serato point of view, it’s like playing a song that can vary as it’s being played and potentially never ends. No waveform, beatgrids are there though.

I haven’t looked into the Traktor+Ableton setups yet, though I will now because I’m quite intrigued. I can’t see any way it could possibly stand up to The Bridge though.

I know that a lot of artists would prefer that someone gets their music for free over someone never hearing it. I can’t remember the exact words, but Skrillex put in in a Facebook status on his page. Of course, he did encourage his fans to support him by buying the music.

Virtual Audio Cable. If you don’t want to buy it, then get… “creative”… with your sources. It works well though. Play with the demo. Test record some stuff.
