    I’d say this…..
The last release of Traktor fixed most if not all of the software stability issues. IF you have hardware issues, the older versions will find a way to crash. I think that pretty much explains that.

What I would say is this. It’s about comfort and usability. The SX2 is geared to be more open, where RX is is almost a Rekordbox exclusive tool. But it’s about what you are most comfortable with.

I personally took a dive with the SX2, and it has YET to let me down. The BIGGEST change I made was moving away from Mac OS to Windows, Specificaly the SurfaceBook as part of my workflow. Folks look funny when they say “you use a tablet?” I say it’s a computer, it’s just some of the tooling it has now make it a good tool for DJing.

I have the surface book, i7 with 8gig of ram, the surface dock and the SX2; I’ve moved to Rekordbox and My tool of choice from Serato or Traktor. The Surface Dock makes MY workflow better. Since it’s USB3, and almost directly interfaces with the computer, I get all the bandwidth I need and little to Zero Dropouts.

Again, this is my setup; I’ve gotten completely comfortable with that setup. I’d say:

Open up and try the Rekordbox software, first, then make a decision. IF you’ve not used Rekordbox, other than prepping tracks, give it a whirl.

I have the MK4 and SX2. The SX2 is a nice tool with Rekordbox and Serato, especially with newer Rekordbox implementation. Match Serato to the tee. With traktor, while the traktor settings file takes FOREVER to load up, it is a useful tool.

If I had to choose I’d probably pick Rekordbox over Serato, even though the SX2 was built for Serato. With the addition of the secondary display, as well as a BUTTON to flip between performance and music management, it’s just overall getting to be a bit better. Plus the sound seems to be a bit better coming from Rekordbox vs. Serato.

To me they are making Serato fit with the new controller tool sets VS. a lot of rework to the Serato software. I like Serato, don’t get me wrong, But Rekordbox seems to be easly integrating with the tools from their owners these days….

So I’d say, get that Sx2 or Something along the lines of it. This by far has been my favorite controller, especially when you can make adjustments to sensitivity and just the overall feel of the product.

I look at it two ways:

    1) If people are coming to hear the DJ, plan your set…
    2) If you putting it out there for them to listen to, Don’t plan, feel the crowd.

You always have your bangers in your DJ set, what you end up resulting to is a set that you’ve either played or wanted to play.

I personally plan my sets…1 hour at a time, with a 5, 10 and 15 minute set. works for me…

And you will LOVE the Xone:DX. I have some DN-S3700 that I’m going to sell to invest in another Laptop. I did a small gig during the Thankgiving holidays, only because I was asked after ROCKING the spot of 50 people with Just the DX, I got another yearly gig, replacing a log time DJ. Beatmatching, minor scratching, and just some plain good music…

I’m there with Hessler. I have a pair of K12s I absolutely adore. They are wonderful. I would suggest those over anything else on the market. (The EV ones are second on my list, especially being able to use the 15’s and at that price, can’t beat it).

A controller and a macbook all day would work very well. My Advice would be to pick a controller based on what you feel is best. Go to your local Guitar Center or Sam Ashe or whatever and take the time to play with those controllers. I personally like the Xone:DX (because I have it and mixing on it is ABSOLUTELY FUN. Plus with some DNS-3700, brand new dimension to sound) but I’m eyeballing the new Pioneer stuff…

You will love the zone:dx. No question. I love mine (hated when I fist for it, thinking it was a.bad idea) realized the quality when I did a wedding and when it came down to partying, the mix was downright easy and magnificent.

what is your budget? I firmly believe QSC K series and Kw series are very good options. EV makes a Very loud and appealing product as well..

We as DJ’s get crazy, whack, lame requests all night, every night we play. Most of us (I would hope) just politely smile and keep doing our thing. But to stop the music and put someone on blast?! 😮
It’s not like she touched his equipment or tried to yank on a cord.

But since it’s Kid Capri I guess he can get away with such behavior.

I say it and say it again….Let me see ANYONE go on stage and ask Outkast to sing a song by Lenny Kravitz. THEY DON’t DO SINGING. Why ask an entertainer change the venue at which they were paid to do. Again, probably being badgered about playing something different from a couple of folks, culminated with this. if 10 out of 1500 people want to hear a certain genre’, put a request in, wait for it, and you BEST be on that floor dancing when it comes on…

‘Will you go up to Mary J Blide while she is on stage to sing a song, how about Dr. Dre and ask him to sing a song by Mary J?’. He was paid to entertain based on the Venue. I agree completely. He probably was badgered a couple of times that night, culminated with that blowup.

KruseControl, post: 3921 wrote: Good reccomendation! I was just reading about that one.
Some of the other ones I was considering were the Hercules 4-MX, American Audio VMS4, and the VCI-300.
Now, I know some of those are 4 deck controllers, and that will be a big change coming from the Mixtrack Pro. However, I feel that these devices would give me a lot of room to grow. Anyone have any opinions on those?

Man, I hate that happened to you!

The Hercules 4-mix is almost and upgrade from the RMX controller, except for some touch functionality and scratch functionality with touch. It would be hard to recommend with SOOO many options out there. the American Audio VMS-4 could be a GOOD start to rebuild your setup also the Numark NS6. I would personally recommend the VMS-4 or the Denon MC-6000 (also check out NI’s s4 and of course my favorite, the Allen and heath Xone:dx). It depends on what your budget is and your aspirations…

whatever floats your boat. Mac’s have proven to be the best investment over a Windows machine, up until windows 7, so nowadays it might be a wash…

    I personally prefer a mac over a PC. HOWEVER…

    Personal Gripe Starts Here….
I’m a little upset with apple these days, the macbook is gone and that was my next investment. I do like this macbook air, but with so little internal storage, it’s upsetting…
I use an external drive hooked up via eSata (Speed). It’s gone 🙁
So, I think my next investment will actually be in a windows based machine vs. a macbook pro, unless I run across a great deal…
