I have to say, my experience with Spotify has been exceptional. It almost never buffered and the mobile abilities were phenomenal. Sometimes you hit a limitation wall as far as their library goes… it took about a year for Baths album to make it on there, but all and all, it’s an incredibly impressive service.

I’m using MOG right now. It’s decent on library selection, nice mobile capabilities, the interface sucks though, I recently tried to keep a party jumping using it when I was without any other options and its lag time was really pissing me off.

While in London I played with SPOTIFY quite a bit and absolutely loved it! It’s not perfect but it’s far, far above anything we have access to in the States. I really hope it is coming soon. I’ve been hearing that for a while now.

I write comics and graphic novels. The first video game I helped write comes out early next year.

I usually take a big trip once every two years. But the best recent one was a month in East Africa in a low impact war zone (my second time in a war zone – I was in central Mexico during the Chiapas revolution). I was there for work in 2007 researching the Lord’s Resistance Army and their conflict with the UPDF. I lived in IDP camps in Northern Uganda. Traveled with Child Soldiers into Southern Sudan. Ghosted WFP trucks through the bush. That sort of thing. It was amazing. Some of my photos from the trip made it on to the BBC website and there’s an interview on World Vision Radio where I talk about being in the conflict zone and hanging with the child soldiers (a ceasefire had just been implemented and the adult leaders had abandoned the kids to go the peace talks in Juba). I won’t post the link here since we’re not supposed to self-promote, but I’m very proud of that trip. If anyone’s interested in East African politics you can find it easy enough.

But as far as being relevant for this blog, I was passing through Kampala on my way to the Sudan border – I flew into Entebbe – and while in the capital I went to one of the music stalls and grabbed a ton of Ugandan Hip-hop on a flash drive. Some of it was absolutely amazing. Of course it’s all piracy there, there are no real music stores, so I didn’t get any data to go along with the tracks and they’re all at a terribly low bit-rate, so though it was one of the deepest digs for music I’ve ever done, it’s all pretty useless for DJing, sadly.

The next trip is either to Azerbaijan or Cambodia!

Agreed! I’m a brand new DJ with the serious bug, but haven’t pulled together my finances enough to get my first controller, so this is like porn to me. Sitting here, lasciviously eying all of your rigs feels exciting and a little dirty!!

Dude, gorgeous set-up! Also dig the nod to Cronenberg on the monitor.

Gha! That sounds terrifying! Especially the part where YOU hear my first mix tape.

It’s cracking big in LA. The recent Lightning in a Bottle fest put on by Do Lab (four days, something like 80 DJ’s, out by a lake in the middle of nowhere) was packed with dubstep acts. And here, in the club scene, you really can’t go see a DJ do a high energy spin that doesn’t, at some point, drop that bass-grazing wobble into the mix. Personally, I love it!
