    That’s… A lot.
On my gigs I wouldn’t be able to hear pretty much anything and my headphones would be mad at me for days afterwards xD

The Elacin are optoplasts as well. Even though it damps 24dB on average I can hold normal conversations easily. They provide a rough curve for each damper on their site.

Beatport for mainstream electronic music, 7digital for pop/rock and Traxsource for more underground electronic music.

For that kind of money you won’t get a full version of Traktor or Virtual DJ. You’ll be looking at things like the Hercules Instinct and Sennheiser HD205 headphones. The Hercules comes with a full version of its own dj software and has a sound card built in. the HD205 sound really good for their price, but don’t expect them to last ages. This should fit your budget.

The only thing to look at now, is how are you going to connect the Hercules to any speaker you might already have.

Beatunes has a feature like this where it doesn’t just compare the song titles, artists, etc, but also the overall look in some kind of way that I don’t understand. So it may find duplicates with different names.
There’s a demo, but I don’t know if this feature is in it.

I use Elacin ER25’s. Instead of having a small hole where all the sound goes through these have pretty wide tunnels where the sound goes to the ear and a large surface area for the filter. There are lower levels of attenuation as well, but for what I do they fit best.
Consider this as well, can you actually hold a conversation wearing these? Flat attenuation curves are best for music, but not for talking to people. I find it easier to hear people with these things in than without. It’s my only set so I use them for gigs and going out.

Please note that the controller is just a box of buttons with a soundcard in it. All the actual work is done by the laptop it is connected to. You could even hook up your computer to an amplifier and just use that, altough it would be good to invest in a dj splitter cable to be able to monitor your next song. You’ll of course also need a pair of headphones for this.

I own a Mixtrack Pro II and it’s nice, but what I’d really advise is at least look at the free videos made by Digital DJ Tips on the basics: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL85AB77DB5A3828A2
Look at some of the lower numbered ones, because you seem to be missing some basics. DJing consists of more than just choosing a controller. You’ll need to choose headphones, software, check you have a laptop that works with the software, etc.

in reply to: Which CDJ package do I go for? #2267311

If you really want to get an all in one system, consider something like an XDJ-RX instead of a CDJ setup. It works with the same USB sticks you’ll use if you get to play on CDJ’s. Plus, you get a lot more for your money. But even this is a step back in terms of capabilities from a controller. Don’t let the build quality argument fool you either, Pioneer CDJ’s are mostly plastic. If you still want CDJ’s, consider the ones made by Denon. They are actually built well and cost a lot less. Again, you get more for your money.
I play regularly on my DDJ-SR and on CDJ2000’s owned by a local venue. I have no problem going from one to the other. Even though I use Traktor on my controller. If you can beatmatch manually and know what the CDJ’s can do you’ll have no problem either.

in reply to: Pioneer Rekordbox 4.0 DJ software/tested? #2265521

I’ve tried it a couple of times with my DDJ-SR. The software looks like the lovechild between Serato and the rekordbox library. Which is not really a bad thing, because the rekordbox library has many, very useful features. All of which are present. There are a few differences, but it looks pretty simmilar.

The effect section is what you’d expect on a Pioneer mixer. Even the color effects are there. They sound just like on the mixers so it’s very usable. There are more coming in the future as well, but you’ll need to pay extra for those. But you can go very far with the ones already in.

The sampler has 8 slots and 4 banks, so that’s more like Cross DJ than Serato. It does have a step sequencer though, which I like a lot. Quantize has a seperate setting for samples and decks so you can choose to have quantize on for samples but not for decks etc. To me, the only thing the rekordbox sampler has over the remix decks is that it can play 8 samples per sampler, so 16 in total. But that’s kind of useless for finger drumming because there’s only 8 of them per side and no midi mapping. For putting loops over tracks, 8 is a bit overkill if you’d ask me.
For me it’s not a replacement in any way, shape or form for the remix decks, but it’s a nice start.

Midi mapping supposedly is coming, but not present. I wouldn’t expect other brands of controllers to be supported as a main controller, Pioneer has said it wants to put all of pioneer in one ecosystem. Maybe you’ll be able to map a modular controller on the side, like Serato has done. That would make more sense.

I like it, but I don’t think I’m going to step away from Traktor just yet. But if midi mapping is available and it’s a bit more streamlined there’s a very big chance I’ll switch. I’d only have to manage one collection for my controller gigs and my CDJ gigs which is a big, no, enourmous benefit. Native instruments would only get me back by offering Maschine integration in Traktor.

If you want to scratch, don’t get a controller that’s not made for Traktor and use it with Traktor. The jogs just aren’t as tight. I use a DDJ-SR with Traktor but scratching is waaay better on Serato DJ or the new Rekordbox DJ. The S4 doesn’t have these problems. I’m not saying Native Instruments broke it on purpose, but they probably did.

It really depends on what you want out of them. I like my V-Moda M100 just because it DOESN’T have a powerfull bass. I hate that, it gives me a headache. Mine has a peak at 10k Hz which makes it ideal to beatmatch in a noisy environment.
I’m not sure the LP’s are bass heavy either. They are built like tanks though and I think the LP’s are even tougher than the M100’s because they don’t have the hinged earcups.
The TMA’s are cool because you can customize them before you even buy them in all kinds of ways. In terms of sound, it really depends on what components you pick. The TMA1’s didn’t really do it for me in terms of sound quality, but the TMA2 could be different. I simply don’t know.

It sounds like it’s in the track itself, but you could sort of create it with a reverb with a long tail, putting it as post fader and then stopping the track. Then you start the track again using a cue point for instance. Mind you, your timing has to be absolutely flawless for it to sound right.

It’s important to use the software that the controller was made for (otherwise the jogwheels won’t respond as tight as they can) and use the right settings (sharp crossfader curve, etc.). When those boxes are ticked, all controllers mentioned above will do. I hear very good things about the jogwheels on Reloop controllers specifically.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the song itself. Some track have tempo changes in them by design. In any case, Serato is able to handle tempo changes just fine. But to make sure you could check a different source of the same track (youtube, spotify, etc) to see if it has the same tempo changes.

If you select the assignment you made in the controller manager to change the effect you’ll see modifier conditions under mapping details. Then you need fx panel mode or something from the modifier dropdown list and set the value accordingly. You’ll need to do this twice, one for each change.
