I think now and days some DJs are getting that “I’m a rockstar, I’ll do what I want with who I want” mentality and are abusing it. Then, THAT overshadows the other “humble/honest” DJs, and so on and so on… I think that’s how I was trying to say it? Just be honest with yourself, be humble and ignore the temptations (unless you’re the let’s get even type, then do what you have to do).

This isn’t the first time that Dj’s have had the “Rockstar Mentality” It was the same in the UK in the 90’s age of the superclub. The bubble will burst again soon enough.

Not a dream. When I played vinyl it was a regular occurance

I tend to have a few beers before I play they usually settle any nerves.

I tend not to get overly nervous when I am playing my local nights nowadays. However when I made my London debut I was bricking it a bit but I just tried to tell myself it was no different to any other gig, and I was right once I got going the nerves dissapeared.
I have also come to realize that everyone is there to party and won’t notice the minor errors that you will notice.
When I play out there are generally only two of my mates that will notice them. One of them used to live with me and the other is at my house alot so have heard me mixing hundreds of times and will happly critisise everything I do and tell me when something is shit(What are best mates for eh).
People will only notice mistakes when they are big clangers. But it is good to have experienced them as well as you learn more from your mistakes than anything else and it will stand you in good stead for the future.

I’m usally quite happy and nerve free once I have the first mix nailed and out of the way.

    I have 2 big ones.

Never plan your set completely in case it bombs..
and no matter how many times the most drunk person in the venue asks you for the most mental tune in your collection at 10pm do not bow to the pressure you will have nowhere to go afterwards!

My first gig out was at a local Hard House night back in the day (2002) when that was what i span. I got the gig just by going to the night finding out who was running it and asking nicely.

I was the second dj on and was quite nervous. I had proper shaky hand syndrome but i put the first vinyl on mixed in the first tune, I made sure it was a mix that i knew well and had done many times before. Once that mix was done i relaxed and realized there not alot to worry about.

I had an excelent time even when i droped a mix the cround geered i held my hands up and carryed on. After the set people were telling me they liked it so i think it went well. I was invited back the week after to open the night when got there the dj that was meant to be on after didn’t turn up and i ended up warming up for the headliner Andy Whitby (For those that don’t know he is one off the biggest dj’s in the Uk hard house scene). But that went well as well and i haven’t looked back since.

I play the same records everyday I don’t need to listen to what I do .. Its my party trick and respect that instead of hating on it . If u doubt it come in the both or try do it yourself before u judge !! Ok .. Nuff said .. SA”

His sets can’t be very interesting if plays the same tunes everytime and is it just me or is putting a pre-mixed cd on not a very good party trick?

Unfortunatly when ever a genre of music starts to get popular it will get raped by people who want to make a quick buck by selling comercial rubbish to the masses. It has happened to trance, House, Garage and soon it will be Dubstep but then something new will come along and everyone will jump on that bandwagon.
Stick with the music you love. The idiots will soon be gone and the people at the core of the scene that love the music will still be there, forced back underground where the idiots ruining your night can’t find them!
