Ok I see it now, beatpad 2 is not for serato, right?
Stavros SpartalisParticipantI am so confused by all this… Although the mixon4 seems like the obvious option because of djay2 android support, which I definitely want to try. I have been looking at controllers at that price range and cannot take my eyes off the denon mc7000. That is a lot of options for mobile djs should I choose to use them. Plus there is some pressure on algoriddim forums for djay native support of the mc7000, although, I very much doubt it will include android devices.
On the other hand, apart from 4 decks what is the other main/groundbreaking difference between the mixon 4 and the beatpad 2? Am I missing/overseeing something here? Do I need 4 decks? I can only think of a couple of times when an idea came in my head while playing, where 3 decks would be required. But maybe I will use them if I have them I don’t know.
Wish we had a local store where I could try all this. But no not locally. And most Djs I know locally are on pioneers.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantDj Vintage, I am trying to justify getting the mixon. So much choice on that price range though. Also, will it not be heavy for mobile use? It looks big in the reviews. Mind you maybe in the future I might be able to save on the weight of the laptop, who knows. I bought Djay pro the other day for the pc. Just to try on my Mixtrack pro I and see if it is worth going the reloop way. Quite impressed but lacks substantial browser/playlist functionality.
Still on the mixon, I wish the pitch sliders were longer. Something I hate on the mixtrack pro I. Do they have a click in the middle?
So none supports the G2v/G4v. Let’s forget that one.

He turned towards me, smiled, then put up a serious face and said: “Mate, do you want all the chicks in here to die?” then smiled again and turned towards his decks! Awesome! I still remember it 15 years later. Sometimes you can use a little humor.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantThanx Danny, i was always bad at maths, works even better now. I think for now it is mapped “ok” to vdj as the manufacturer would have intented meaning it works more or less the same as in mixvibes LE just with more lights blinking lol. Just for kicks, at some point, ill try and create an alternative mapping for it. Since it hasn’t got touch sensitive jogwheels, ill get rid off “scratch” and maybe “rev” to have shift buttons and try assigning different things. anyone who might want the mapper and definition file I have already made let me know.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantThank you for your reply danny boy. i am not using the simple midi wrapper on virtual dj. i tried to do it the proper way by creating a definition file. now in the definition file i must state the total number of steps the jogwheel takes to perform a full circle. full=”162″ gives the best results so far though far from perfect. below are some readings from miditrace:

although i am slowly coming to the conclusion that the jogwheels are not touch sensitive. today i installed mixvibes LE to see what happens there and realised the song does not pause when i keep a finger on the jogwheel :-/. I apologise for the lists of readings and the long message.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantThanx for the reply Chuck. Don’t worry it’s not the sound distorting. Im never in the red. What i meant by peak was reach their relative maximum value. I sorted the issue somehow by adding the driver name to the definition file. Until now it was only with vid and pid values since miditrace would not give me the sysexid. It was weird though, the more leds i was mapping the more piano sounds i had lol. But no piano sounds anymore so all good. and i got the leds blinking and flashing nicely.
Anyway almost there now. Two things remaining:
A. Define the jogwheels properly. How do i find the full=”xxx” value for the definition file? Miditrace? Or just trial and error until a full rotation of the jog results in a full rotation of the platter in vdj skin? I don’t expect to be scratching with them lol, but i’d like to make them perform as best as they can.
B. What script do i use in the mapping file so i can make the pitch bend buttons move the slider instead? Is it even possible?
I think i ll also remap the REV (reverse) buttons as SHIFT, to maybe add looping capabilities.
I don’t know why Im bothering with all this, as i ve got a mixtrack pro and an lpd8. but im learning new things so it’s fun.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantAlmost there. after more searching and trying this morning i got it working. I sorted the browser knob issue. I had to define it as encoder. So nr1. from above is solved.
Nr2. The jog wheels are working. Any idea how i find out the value/number for a full circle?
Nr3 is still an issue although i dont even know if doing that in vdj is possible
Nr4 still persists. I realized the piano sounds occur when sync is blinking, which is when the vu meters on vdj peak. Is this a windows drivers issue? Windows7 autodetected it as unspecified device. It named it midi8 and in the hardware properties it shows up as sound, video and game controller. Or is it a mistake in the definition/mapper file?
dj synthet1c where are you?
Stavros SpartalisParticipantOk, bit of a situation report:
I’ve created a definition file and a mapping file.I also managed to map all the keys and knobs and got the leds working. That was fun actually. Now here come the questions. If you know the answer to any of them feel free to answer. All help will be appreciated.
1. I haven’t managed to get the browser knob working. it loads songs when I press it but does not scroll when I rotate it. How do I define it? I tried as a jog and mapped it as browser scroll but no joy. In miditrace it gives different readings when i rotate forwards and different backwards.
2. How do I define the jogwheels? In miditrace when I move them forward they come up with certain readings. When I move them backwards, different readings. If I move em faster, different readings. If I touch them they give readings but not continiously.
3. Is there a way i can map the pitch bend buttons to move the pitch slider up and down slowly? What would the mapping be? i have defined them as buttons.
4. Why does VDJ come up with random piano sounds now and again? is it a warning that i have done something wrong?
Thanx in advance follkls
Stavros SpartalisParticipantYeah, you re right it’s not expensive. already on VDJ though so would like to avoid learning a new software from scratch. I’d like to give a good go at mapping it though. i just need some help to get going. I mean, this xml is not “voodoo” right? if all fails ill install the LE version of mixvibes and give it a try.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantI think it’s really funny/ironic how portable music sources have become really small, (remember walkmans or discmans?), but now the headphones people wear have become massive (irrelevant of djing). As far as celebrities of any kind go, they re usually paid to use, wear, drink, drive and eat certain things, and of course they are usually given them free.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantIf we accept the fact that there always be someone who’s got better gear and or does it better, and be ok about it, because what we do/got is good enough, we will live a much happier life.
i go by the saying, if it aint broke, don’t fix it. i just make sure i have backup for most things.

I think CDJs are quite the same as any controller, even the Nexus (have to use the Nexus setup once a month currently…) and even more limiting than most controller. I give you that the Mixtrack is far from it as it has much less buttons, but if you just ignore the ones you do not need… It is not like CDJs are any kind of voodoo.🙂 It is not like CDJs are any kind of voodoo, hehe. like!
September 13, 2013 at 8:25 am in reply to: DJ'ing at your own party – without physically DJ'ing #44137Stavros SpartalisParticipantTough one. I would make short playlists of 10-20 songs of different genre and energy/tempo then line them up according to the crowds reaction. If you can find the time, you could even record the short playlists/sets so you can show some of your skills. if you have the pro version of VDJ it shouldnt be a problem and the software can split the tracks everytime you use the crossfader if you want it to. then you can jump behind the mixtrack for five ten minutes and impress them? make sure your laptop and controller are out of reach of curious people. it’s still not an ideal situation but if you dj yourself, you won’t enjoy your own party.best would be to hire a dj especially if it’s an important birthday. are you sure none of your friends know anyone? im pretty sure the venue manager will know of someone who can possibly do it on a budget.
Stavros SpartalisParticipantThanx everyone for your replies. for now we just connected the mixer with the desktop and use the mouse and some of the mixer’s channels. keeps my friend busy and practising in the little spare time that he has. will have to work on some keyboard hotkeys. By the way just realized the gemini cntrl-7 has been selling for around 140euros. does this mean the G2V/G4v are finally around the corner? And, how would the cntrl-7 compare with other controllers at that price point?
