simple, not every record, cd, mp3 or 8 track is recorded at the same level. proper leveling is a fundamental of djn

truth is, you should hear your mistakes before the rest, this thought process makes you pay attention more than the rest. remember, unless you really train wreck, you will be fine. keep it out the red, deep breath and fake it till you make it. they are not there to for you but just the music. they didnt come to see dj such and such, just to have a good time. so, have a good time too. remember the basics, always know where the 1 is and never cut a verse, little effects for transitions and you will be golden. REMEMBER, THE ONLY THING THAT SEPARATES YOU FROM THE NEXT GUY IS YOUR LIBARY. BAR NONE. know when to drop the right tracks at the right time is a learning process that takes sometimes years to master. good luck green pea

suck out, grab local gigs, introduce the sheep at various times music you like, go back and play the top 40 bs, make a name, gather a following, play more underground stuff in your sets, more people will follow and say, after 5 to 10 years maybe you will have the force to name drop to a promoter. OR, do you time pounding pavement, handing out flyers, helping the promoter, network, build his scene and maybe he will in 3 or 4 years give you an opening, maybe sooner. but dont expect to get paid much, but expect many drunk infused drugged out patrons, and maybe, just maybe, you will able to headline a spot and Jesus pose. or just go back to the aforementioned and be a mobile guy, and transition to a wedding guy and make a livable income. gosh, i should be getting paid for this!

However, I don’t like it when promoters or clubs try to play this “limitation” thing. The reason is they only limit themselves. So if they are staunchly anti-laptop, but the new hot act in town is a laptop mashup king…their competition will win because they will book them.

In my eyes this all comes back to how many heads you bring in. If a “keepin it real” night at one club is empty, partially empty, or a sausagefest…then they’ll lose to the “as long as it works” event that perhaps brought out new talent and pandered to women.

thing was d-jam, played at the 311 formally know as the victor hotel and the owner would not let me bring my controller in. yup, he had a serato box and all, but i was told last minute that i could not bring the gear i had. he had all ev pro gear and it was banging! so i played my hr and half slot by burning cds on the fly (showed up hr early) and going back to my roots of beat matching and i killed it. point is, if you do small bars and lounges, yup you can get away with what ever gear you like. you try and play at the castle or v-live, better have your cds or/and the lappy. i just felt more of a staple to the other djs that were there and asked “where is your laptop”. came with 6 cds and my head phones and shut it down. cats were like dams! bottom line, to the newbies, adapt and overcome or get overrun. 1+1 will always equal 2. if there is no calculators allowed, how are you going to react? fundamentals!

beatmatching is a skill that is required. point blank, bar none, do not pass go and collect $200 bucks. resason being allot of clubs wont let you bring on a controller. Did a gig here in my home town and last min was told i have to only use cdjs. i dont have live or scratch just serato dj so did i turn down the gig? nopee, transferred my set list to 5 cds and took it back to the old school. no lappy, just me and my headphones with the cds. I banged it out with-out a hiccup. point is, fundamentals are fundamental lol.

yup like this guy said^ you got booked through so and so promotions, all work considered should go through him. ive been through this many of times and have got bent over. bottom line is there is no negations with my bottom line. i remember when a time when i did the same trap, promoter booked me to 130, bar didnt close till 3. owner said he wants me to keep going, called promoter no answer. i kept going not to put bad name on said owner. got screwed over and me and that ass dont talk anymore. you are the man. you keep the crowd. you dig countless hours for music. you subscribe to the dj pools. speak up homie. or move on from this guy or out the biz forever. cause if you take his half felt, bs offer as pay, you will fill in the gaps of Djs that will work for peanuts and under cut the working pros.
