Line 6 makes the best wireless mic I’ve ever used hands down. All their models are excellent. I started with the base model XD-V35 and recently upgraded to the V55. Their system is a little more expensive than a VHF/UHF system, but 1000 times more reliable in my experience. It’s digital, so there’s never any interference plus the range is outstanding.
As for wired mics, I like my Audix OM2’s. I also picked up a Blue Encore 100 on sale which is a really nice mic.
EDIT: Oops, didn’t realize this was an old thread I’m replying to. Sorry mods.

If you’ve gone through all the optimizing and are still having issues, you may need to get more processing power (i.e. a new laptop).
Traktor is a fairly CPU intensive program, especially with effects running.
December 21, 2016 at 12:00 am in reply to: Using two seperate soundcard for djing. is it possible? #2482871squarecellParticipantI had to due this once in a pinch. One important thing I’ll note is that I found my MacBook output to be much quieter than my mixer. In fact, I had a very hard time hearing anything through my headphones over the speakers.

Upconverting your MP3 files will not improve the audio quality in any way. You’re essentially putting the same amount of bits (data) into a larger container, if you get my metaphor – the overall package is bigger, but content stays exactly the same.
squarecellParticipantSo is your plan to DJ with one 1200 and then a CDJ running timecode?
I feel like getting something like a Denon SC2000 to use as your second deck might be a better idea.
squarecellParticipantThere’s lots of free music on Soundcloud as well.
squarecellParticipantYou would use the out from the soundcard/mixer as your main audio track for the finished video, but as long as whatever cameras you’re using to record video (phone/action cam) are also capturing audio, you can use that to sync them together and make a multi-cam track.
squarecellParticipantMost video editing software (Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve for example) has a function that will sync clips using their audio. There is also a standalone software called PluralEyes which does this specifically.
squarecellParticipantThanks all for sharing your stories.
Mark and Snowbro, I’m glad to hear you’ve both had similar experiences in your DJ careers.
I’ve been thinking about the future of my DJing career over the past few days and I think the way forward is to become a ‘bedroom DJ’ as Snowbro suggests (something I haven’t really done for a few years now) and take select gigs on my terms.
I actually played my last gig of 2016 on Saturday, it was a seniors dance playing hits from the 50s to 70s. It was my second time playing for this particular crowd and it went very well. Maybe that’s my new niche. At least I had one good gig to send me off into my hiatus.
squarecellParticipantMy insurance company required that my contract be bulletproof before they took me on.
squarecellParticipantYeah, that was the same night I was assaulted by the bride’s sister. I suppose I could put ‘no assaulting the DJ’ in the contract as well, but you’d think that would be self-explanatory.
But yeah Terry is 100% right. Your contract needs to be able to pass the legal test of whatever jurisdiction you live in, so using a template isn’t the smartest option.
squarecellParticipantOne thing I need to add to my wedding contract. “You may not change to a new venue in the middle of the reception.”
Not kidding. They decided to move to a smaller venue then expected I would pack up and follow them.
squarecellParticipantPersonally, I find the GigBar is weak. Even in small venue it just doesn’t do enough.
A better choice IMO would be to have a couple of moving heads, a wash and something like a Mini Dekker or Kinta. On separate stands so you can add some depth to your setup.
squarecellParticipantAs long as it’s Core i5 or better (and dual core or better), with at least 4 gigs of RAM you’re fine.
An SSD and 8 gigs of RAM would be a worthy investment as well.
squarecellParticipantHonestly, this gig sounds like more trouble than it’s worth. You’re going to be renting all the gear out of your own pocket. It’s outdoor, so you’ll have to protect it (and your gear) from the elements, worry about power, etc. Everyone will presumably be running by you, so they’re not likely to hear more than half a song (and even then they’ll be more focused on running than on what track you’re playing).
From my experience, when running events hire DJs it’s to keep the audience interested while they’re waiting for their friend/family member to run by.
By the way, if I call it a “gig” it means I’m getting paid. If I’m volunteering, it’s called a “favour”.
