I may be the oddest DJ on this site - a 62 year old medical doctor in the southwestern US, who never wanted to be a DJ but found himself doing paying DJ gigs due to a sick obsession with audiophile gear. (I'm still looking for a 12-Step program.) My day job allows me to buy all the cool toys I like, so when I found myself being asked to use my audiophile gear for PA and music for various events, I found it was a huge rush to be up in front of an enthusiastic, dancing crowd playing music through a state of the art system. Soon I was the owner of an S4 Mk 2, a couple of F1's, and all the accessories. I stumbled across Digital DJ Tips trying to figure out how to use this stuff, and have taken many of the excellent courses offered here. Although my skills are mediocre at best, those classes must have done some good, because I keep getting more compliments and paying gigs all the time! Thank you Phil and Steve!!
Plenty of $200/hr gigs notwithstanding, I consider myself a hobbyist DJ just having a bunch of fun playing music for people! Phil keeps saying it, and I second it: Get out of your bedroom and play in public! It's too good a rush to miss!
