    Just try the serato intro out, as its free without any time restrictions or so, and you’ll get pretty good idea how that sw works. If it fits you better then go ahead and upgrade or stick to vdj. Simple as that.

    The problem here is ofc, that with serato you need a licenced controller to use it, so no laptop DJing for you!

    a side note, if its not obvious: I’d get a separate laptop for your DJ+producing needs (not two laptops, I mean) and keep the gaming stuff and the other xxx thing on another one. These things tend to put even the best laptops on their knees very quickly 😀

    I recently bought a macbook, solely for DJ business. The dealer had an insurance available for the product, for some extra $$$ (yes thats three digits), and I took it.

    Your most important insurance is, ofc, the backup of the music you have. You have a backup, right? RIGHT?

    Well, You can play with the gear you already have, right? Then there’s nothing more you need about that.

    What you need now is the PA, and like Vintage said, rent one, especially if you have little or no experience about PA systems. I don’t know how large is the room you’re playing in, or how me persons are attending, but I recommend 2 active speakers (with stands) and a PA-mixer to whitch you can plug your controller into, and also the mic. Don’t use the mic input on your controller, if you can avoid it. Ofc you need the cables also, but you can rent them too.

    With active speakers you do not need additional amplifier(s), as they’re built in to the speakers.

    Hell I do lots of weddings with a simple Denon MC2000, a separate PA-mixer and a couple of wireless mics (and a separete karaoke set up of a laptop and a screen if requested). In weddings its more about the tracks you play, than your mixing skills.

    BUT

    Upgrading to MC6000Mk2 as soon as I get the funds for it, so I can pitch the mixer 🙂

    I doubted posting this, since I’m not sure, but I believe, you could try VirtualDJ, afaik even the LE version has recod function, is free, has some live-streaming applications, and should work just fine with your controller.

    Give a try, at least it shouldn’t cost you anything.

    In other words, they take care of all the legal bullshit, invoicing and so on. I just go there and play.

    They pay me based on the hours I work (both playing, setting the set up and packing), plus untaxed money for the travelling. Yes I use a car. The money is comparable to working in a restaurant, or slightly better. So one gig nets me after taxes around 120-250 €, depending of the playtine and how much driving is involved.
    Sure they take their part, but then again, its business, they get me pretty much as much gigs as I can take (every saturday offered since last June, occasionally on weekdays too) with minimal effort on my side and they give me the PA to boot.

    Well I wanted to have a go on CDJays too, guess what I did? I Conctacted the manager of a local nightclub (a big one, high profile) and asked, If I could come to try some day. Guess what he answered: “Why I don’t see a reason why not! You could come on fri or sat night berofe the residents come in around 10 pm and give a go, if the band’s soundcheck is done already. Or then again I’m working on weekdays (hours), maybe we could settle this?”

    Really. He said sure, and even (kinda) offered me a gig while at it ^_^

    Why don’t you try too?

    Decent for up to 150 pax parties, but lack some bass, so depending on the style of music you play, you might want an additional subwoofer.

    Yepp, not cheap.

    Thats because when speeding up, the SW just cuts bits and pieces out of the audio, when slowing down, it has to fill those gaps… with what?
