Thomann doesn’t deliver to norway, since not EU?
April 19, 2014 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Mixing Competition Poll – Give us your opinion please! #2024062Tuomas HelanderParticipantI vouch for previous poster.
My two cents: themed mix, quarterly, not too long 15 mins for example. Criteria: technical performance, creativeness and sexiness (dance or not).
Tuomas HelanderParticipantDoes your software know you are using a splitter cable? Check the settings on your software and/or google the instructions on yourparticular software. Basically you need to se your master output to “mono split”, otherwise you just get the stereo output.
Apologies if this was not the issue.
Tuomas HelanderParticipantI’d say Denon mc6000mk2 about 700 € + software 129 $, or Reloop terminal mix 8 around 500 € with software bundle are the ones to go for instead of pioneer. Tbh I’ve never used either of the controllers mentioned, but have used other denon stuff (same components) and reloop TM4, great controller. The reason i suggest these, are that they are more modern controllers, all the same functions basically for almost half the price.
Tuomas HelanderParticipantWow you actually took time to listen and feedback! Many thanks!
you are correct, that beatmatching is where I excel, mainly because straight drops often suffer from radical energy and sound variations. I however have done other kind of music as well. This was my first trance mix. I do scrathing too, but didin’t feel it was necessary here. Next month’s mix will be moombahton, whitch I’ve never done before, so I guess thats exactly what you said about the comfort zone.
Tuomas HelanderParticipantThere it already is. Now go listen to my awesomeness. 😀

You can edit a track for example by extending it, shortening it, or as in this case, you could just mash up these 2 tracks together into a single track. Check out Audacity, free software to do this, and If you have money, Check out DDJT courses “Make you own DJ edits” and “Pro mixtape formula”. While all this infomation is also available for free in the internet, these courses are well explained, go to detail, and you’ll be able to do this stuff right away. This will also cover how to get better quality recordings. I just say it involves post-production.
Mixtapes are a DJ’s business card, so Its important in my opinion to plan out the set.Try to find tracks you think go well together, practice and try out different transitions, plan the set so, that he drive of the set is building up, OR goes up and down slightly. This relates to the lenght of the mix: radio show? 1-2 h. Mix to show off your skills? max 30 mins. Thats about as much I listened.
You already record your practices, and thats a very good thing. Now listen to your mixes critically, and you’ll gonna find things that need improving yourself.
Keep Practicing!
Tuomas HelanderParticipantNow about the mix:
Good:
1. Short duration, I actually listened thorough the whole mix.
2. Beatmixing nailed.
3. Elctro House.
4. Levels.Improve on:
1. Track selection: In a mix as short as this, you want it to be uprising, so no sudden breakdowns and energy downfalls.
2. Keymixing, do either Drum on Drum mixing, straight drops or analyse keys to help your mixing.
3. We all hate to admit, but it was a bit cheesy, wasn’t it? 😀Tuomas HelanderParticipantYes, he was the first one who died in every mission, since he had the best stats out of every other character!
Tuomas HelanderParticipantNo miten se keikka meni?
Finnish as “well how did the gig go?”

6. Nothing, absolutely nothing in music business/indurstry happens bu accident.April 19, 2014 at 1:33 am in reply to: looking for feedback on a mix i have done would be appreciated #2023869Tuomas HelanderParticipantTo better get feedback:
1. Keep your mixes to bearable lenghts. Not the whole clubnight.
2. Do not upload something with genuine mistakes (such as meaningless backspins) on it.
3. I noticed you played several tracks by same producer back-to-back (in multiple occasions). Now while there are no rules, this is generally not concidered as a good thing unless You’re the procuder in question. The DJ Fresh example wasn’t the worst transition ever, it was rather cool actually, why not just make an edit of it.
4. Keep practicing! (beatmatching, dropping a tune in, scrathing one in)Tuomas HelanderParticipantMIK, its not even expensive. 54% is nowhere near good.
Tuomas HelanderParticipantliek dis?
Tuomas HelanderParticipantReally depends on the next song you cue up and your own mixing style IMO. If you’re doing a beatmatchable mix, and building up the tempo slowly, you should propably keep it on. Harmonic mixing is a good example of a mixing style that benefits from keylock.
I keep the keylock on most of the time.
