Today we bring you a talkthrough of a new controller from Musikmesse 2012, namely the Stanton DJC.4, a controller that packs a lot in for your money – if you’re a fan of Virtual DJ, that is.
Considering Stanton says it will be priced in the “mid 300s” – around US$100 more than the cheap and cheerful Reloop Beatmix which is another new Virtual DJ controller but has considerably less in the way of features – it’s easy to see what your extra money will buy for you.
The Stanton DJC.4 is well-built with metal housing; it’s compact but has a decent weight; the knobs are all bolted down properly (Allen & Heath style); there’s a replaceable crossfader (audio and video switchable); and nicest of all which is clear to see from the video, they’ve gone to town mapping the features of Virtual DJ to the banks of buttons above the jogwheels.
Moving on further, they’ve implemented fader effects, something only found until now on the Novation Twitch (among DJ controllers, anyway). As we stated in our first piece it has standalone mixer capability, although we clarified with Stanton that it’s “pseudo” standalone, like the Allen & Heath Xone:DX, for instance (you can plug your decks or CD players in, but it has to also be plugged into a laptop to get power).
This one should be available early summer, and we’re looking forward to compiling a proper review of it.
