Quietly, in the corners of a show dominated by beefier gear, the humble iPad still carves its little niche as a DJ platform. The iPad is a great choice for those who prefer to dabble casually, or just want a more portable solution, and it’s to those people that manufacturers like Reloop (with the BeatPad), Numark (with the iDJ Live), and Pioneer (with the WeGo as featured in this article) are aiming. All of these systems use Algoriddim’s djay software.

We got a first look at the WeGo 3 here at the BPM Show, and can report that it feels more professional and sturdier than previous incarnations. The top is brushed metal, the jogwheels a cool silver colour that feel great, and the design is distinctive as far as the transport controls, cues and loops etc go, with Pioneer opting for putting them in a circle around the jogwheel. Throw in a specially skinned version of djay with less duplication of controls between screen and unit, and you’ve got a neat looking package.

The unit charges your iPad, has a mic input round the back for the odd bit of talking (tip: plug your headphones in here and shout into the earcups, it works a treat!), and basically, it’s a solid update of what was already a nice little casual DJ controller. Thumbs up from us.

Do you like the look of the WeGO 3? Is there a place for iPad DJing or the bigger world of digital DJing in 2014? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
