Magma CTRL Case For Traktor Kontrol S8 Review

The Lowdown

The Magma CTRL Case for the Traktor Kontrol S8 could be your solution to protecting your Kontrol S8, especially if you only play out occasionally or just want something to keep it in at home when you’re not using it.

Video Review

In Use

It’s a very minimal thing, a soft-but-solid case with a durable nylon outer, stitched and riveted nylon weave handles with a Velcro-close strip to hold them together when carrying, and foam eggshell-style padding within to holds the controller snugly. There is a durable three-sided zip to open and close the case.

Nothing else: No room for laptop, leads, headphones etc: this is just designed to hold the Kontrol S8 snugly, and to do so in a relatively cheap and lightweight package. While it’s still too big to take on an aeroplane in the cabin (at least, it is here in Europe), it is just about as lightweight and compact as you’re even going to see in a Kontrol S8 case.

When closed and with the handles fastened together, it is a lightweight and easy way to carry your Kontrol S8, or simply to store it under the bed…

Conclusion

For what it is, it does the job well. While it’s not the best choice if you’re gigging three times a week with the controller, it’s a great choice if you want somewhere to put it away after using it at home, and if in addition you like to play out and about occasionally with your controller, because it’s hard to justify spending much more than this on a controller case, but clearly not having one would be madness.

If you wanted to be double sure everything is going to arrive as it left, adding the cost of a Decksaver (see-through plastic moulded) cover for the knobs and buttons of the Kontrol S8 would be wise too, due to the fact that this is a soft case so a considerable blow could still damage such components, but that’s up to how roughly and tough you’d be handling it.
