Hi my name is DJ Mike. I’m having trouble using the beat grid function in Serato DJ. I’m trying to use the beat grid on some of my older tracks from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s. They are mostly R&B, Soul, and Golden Oldies tracks. Unfortunately i’m having a lot of difficulty doing this. I tried looking at videos on the internet, but they aren’t really any help. They DJ’s in these videos usually use newer songs and more upbeat songs as an example rather than the old ones. I would gladly appreciate if someone could give me advice or even help me beat grid these songs.

Older music has real drums and is not as mastered and compressed as today’s music, therefore software like SDJ has trouble picking up the transients. You will have to manually set the grid using warp markers. It will be a bit tedious but it can be done. Is there a specific issue that you are running into?

Either “warped” it yourself, or buy the re-drum version of them oldies tunes
