Edwin AlvarezParticipanti just pick random songs that i know dont mix together and TRY to make them mix. like different genres. just practice. 1 hour a day. if i trainwreck i stop (yes im a big baby) just lose my mojo. then im at it the next day.
Edwin AlvarezParticipantbeen at this for years, the nerves never fully relax. my biggest fear is system failure

Edwin AlvarezParticipanti like the small form factors speakers such as qsc k8’s,the EV zxa1, or yamaha dxr8. these speakers sound great and can GROW with you as your budget allows. they all offer matching subs as well for future upgrading.
BUT dont say no to just using a single 12″ two way, i had a bbq party this past weekend that i used a single qsc k12 and i actually had to turn it down. (about 40 people)
it was more than enough volume wise, i know some people dont have the budgets for the higher end lines but you really do get what you pay for. If your in this seriously consider the best you can afford. You’ll spend more in the end buying cheap then having to buy quality speakers down the line.
Edwin AlvarezParticipantfrom my experience have something for everyone. its like a wedding (crowd wise) so youll see 5 yr olds all the way up to 70 yr olds. use clean versions (im sure you knew this) make sure your setup is easy to tear down in case it starts to rain.
try to have a tent or awning, daylight is hard on the electronics heat and visual wise. tie up your cables real good, no trip hazards! you will have tiny people running and playing by your gear!
have business cards on hand, no better time to get your name out. crowd interaction at block parties are always fun. maybe offer a raffle or prize for best dance (this works even better if you have business t-shirts,hats, cups etc…) people love free swag!
Edwin AlvarezParticipantheadphones can be your best friend in this situation. the nature of the beast that are sound waves never sound “correct” from the booth or from behind the speakers. a monitor helps but i feel headphones are better imo. always keep an eye on the levels. doesnt hurt to walk out and do a soundcheck here and there.
