just be polite and say that you’ll play it later. Being nice and smiling helps prevent offending them 😀

theres a band here called sound society that has a dj in their arsenal. From what I can tell, he scratches mostly and it really adds on.

gotta love funky house. pretty good song selection, I enjoyed this 😀 the eric prydz song is a particular fave atm too 😉

    constructive criticism:

beat matching was a little off at times. this will come with time though, just keep practicing fine adjustments.

i think you could do a bit of work on your transitions. there not too shabby overall but I think there are a few things you could do to clean them up a bit.

the transitions in the second halfish of the mix were pretty good, but for the first halfish:

you have the idea of gradually sort of taking a song out, but I think you could pull the old track a bit faster, especially if there is clashing. keep in mind that mixed in key isn’t perfect :p I can appreciate that your making blends of tracks with different melodies, but if two tracks don’t blend well, just try using the intro of the song your bringing in, as intros usually don’t have anything besides the drums and you can avoid key clashing by using them. If the intro is musical, then you’ll just have to be more picky with what you mix it with 😀

The mixing got better as the mix went along. you have good taste in music and an overall decent understanding of djing, I think you just need a bit of practice to make a smoother mix 😀 keep up the good work!!

don’t go out of your comfort zone, just spin the way you would normally. know the type of music they want ahead of time. its cool if you win but if you don’t then don’t sweat it. losing is a great motivator for improvement 😀 also keep in mind that these contests are a GREAT way to get know other local djs, managers and promoters. Be sure to network while your there and keep a positive attitude.

best of luck and let us know how it goes!

I like your style man, fairly different from what I usually listen to. could you tell me the name of the track at 20:00? I really like that vocal 😀

use this djtt powerscript. it really reduces cpu usage on pcs and is great for reducing drop outs

another trick that sounds cool sometimes is bass swaping. when your mixing into a track (with the treble and bass turned down), once your about half way through the phrase your mixing in (usually 16 or 32 bars), turn up the bass eq of the track your mixing in and turn the bass eq down of the track your mixing out. most house songs have couple notes in the verse where there is no kick drum; this is the perfect place for a bass swap. can defo sound sick if done right 😀

i think everyone covered most of the bases but one thing I’d like to add: just because you don’t have your keys labelled doesn’t mean your not mixing harmonically. If you mix songs that sound good together (which you should probably be doing :p), chances are your mixing harmonically.

i used to feel the same way but i think its important to not take these things as a shot to your self esteem. good sets show that the art of djing is complex and takes decades to master. just think of their sets as a point to strive towards. this set right here was one that really made me step my game up.
