Due to this compression issue, would you say its best to record tunes from vinyl to digital (where possible) rather than rip CD’s or is that unnecessary ?

Interesting article, explains the very thick looking waveforms. I’ve read that a programs like Platinum Notes can fix this compression issue.

Does seem absurd, why lose quality just to be loud ?

I’m in a similar predicament to yourself

One of the disadvantages that a desktop has to a laptop (depending on the specification) is that they typically use more electricity and may be a bit noisy (although this depends on the computer case, power supply etc)
But if your planning to upgrade the desktop or even build it, that’s when I think they have the best value. If not then they seem a bit overkill these days IMO unless you really need lots of power.
Don’t think that would be the case if your just using Traktor Pro 2

Another thing to consider are Mini PC’s. They typically use less power and obviously are smaller but are essentially a desktop so you can have your separate large monitor and keyboard. One that has particularly interested me is the Intel NUC

With these you have to install the hard drive, RAM, and wireless internet board but there are companies around that will do this for you.

    Thanks for the responses

Reading through the various blog posts and comments I know there’s a lot of pressure to jump on the WAV bandwagon, but 320 MP3’s seem to be sufficient.
I get 320 MP3’s when I buy tunes online although I do get WAV’s if they cost the same price. Been trying to get music on CD or vinyl where possible.
