Mitch HamblingParticipant
But are the 7000’s a good option? Or are they more on the cheap and a little crappy side?
Mitch HamblingParticipantThe question still seems to be out there. While some may say that the CDJ’s are nicer b/c
It’s a little bit like iPads, sure you can type a message on them, but I’d rather have my full sized keyboard and 24″ monitor when I am doing serious work
then others like their controllers because they can do more than a CDJ can. But if controllers are really that much better why does everyone big name artist out there use them? as well as anyone that performs live. I rarely see controllers used by anyone performing live. So I guess it is just whoever’s mixing preference?

buy AIFF!!! best quality

Sorry that it is upside down i couldn’t figure out how to flip it right side up on the post. But anyways i’m currently running traktor pro 2 on a mbp. Kontrol s4, kontrol x1, lpd8, and novation launchapd.
what do you use your launchpad for? im trying to do the same

holy shit lol, you were spot on with that conneciton.
I would like to start mixing on CDJ’s to learn on them, but where the hell is a 15 year old sposed to find that kinda money?
Mitch HamblingParticipantA third thing was that if I only took my controller (and my customers pay a nice amount for me to bring gear) it just wouldn’t “look” right, if you know what I mean.
lol, yes i know what you mean. It looks a bit weird, or unprofessional i guess you could say if a producer or DJ went into a huge set only using a controller. makes it look as if they are not doing anything. But Im pretty young, and wondering where in the hell im goona find the money to learn on CDJ’s that arent from the dino years. + a mixer. i run on a s2 right now because i just started three months ago, but i feel as if I should make the transition to a CDJ player in the next year or so.
But besides it looking more professional and having bigger buttons and what not. what is the true difference? I notice anything DJ/Producing related is very very expensive. Im just curious as to why the price is such a difference in some things. like the s2 and s4 for example. 500$ vs. 1000$. but in my eyes, all you get is two extra decks, and a couple sample buttons, and a little more to look at (im sure there is a lot more to it). But is it really a 500$ difference?
That goes for CDJ players too. Why in the hell are they so expensive?
Mitch HamblingParticipantdoesnt sound to shabby btw, just maybe work on taking the length of outro’s down a little, you will get whoever is listening to it a wee bit bored, unless your just doing a podcast or something. other than that it sounds good

For my 1st recording its rough around the edges but u gotta start somewhere right?!
im 15, just starting lol. but ive noticed house music is a lot easier to mix vs. dubstep (if your into it) or electro and that wacky stuff. House is nice and simple beats and good to start. then depending on your taste in genre’s you will notice yourself learning how to do diff. transitions and branching out into other types of music.

If you google DJ Skittles, you will get a underground house DJ in San Francisco, a Deep House DJ in Chicago, and nYc Music Mixers DJ from New York, a Club promoter in Baltimore, and me in Utah as well as countless others. That being said, the reason I have the name “DJ Skittles” is because “Skittles” has been my nickname for 5+ years now. You shouldn’t necessarily worry about everyone else who might have your name, but rather if that name describes you personally. Thats how people close to you and people in your area will know you. No reason to boot the name simply because its close to someone elses
lol one of the dj’s at a local radio station is DJ skittles. IM DEEJAY TEEKAY KANDI DEEJAI
Mitch HamblingParticipantignore anything past 8 minutes cuz i wasnt really doing anything. but how do these first transitions sound? i think the first two songs were out of key, but dont remember. I cant tell if this sounds good to me, it sounds alright but there seems to be something missing http://www.hulkshare.com/ftzmogzlil8g
Mitch HamblingParticipantthank man ill keep it posted

Where is the master volume? Set the gains at zero (12 o’clock), as well as the master volume (2 o’clock). Go to preferences, mixer section. I, have autogain when loading a track & the limiter checked. I also have the headroom set to -6dB. With my gain set at 0db, and the volume set at 0dB, I NEVER go into the red, and it is still very loud. It will hit the orange when mixing two tracks or at really loud parts of tracks, but that’s it. When recording, top right of screen, there is a separate record gain. This actually needs to be turned up a little if the settings are as I stated above. The recorder also has its own VU meters which you can easily see if its hitting the red. Check out this article.

It applies mostly to playing in a club on a mixer, but may help you understand what volume, gain, and headroom are. This stuff is confusing and involves a lot of physics. I’m still learning. Try the above and see how it works.
I run traktor with my gain at -5 for track A and B because if i keep it at 0 the meters go red, and It seems to me that having both tracks at -5 affects the sound. obviously it affects to volume, but what else does it do? i havent really looked into it. And i was wondering if there is a way to mix with both tracks at 0 but not get int the reds
Mitch HamblingParticipantsweeet, alright thanks, because ive been using this crappy online one and it claims to convert it to 320kbps mp3 but I checked in itunes and its at 256 D:
Mitch HamblingParticipantAnother electro mix I made the other day, kinda messy and a couple screw ups, whatever… http://www.hulkshare.com/ta6r4e8g72f4

you can use Mixed in Key or Rekord Boxyes, i use mixed in key for my mixing, and it does help quite a bit, but some songs with complete different keys can still mix
