That’s the longest “ps:” I’ve ever read 😉
StazbumpaParticipantDepends on what you want to do with it. I use my allegedly out of date kit to gig with twice a week, and while it is primarily a digital setup I wanted a modular kit list simply because I do not trust any setup based around any sort of computer to work 100% of the time.
However if it’s for mucking about with at home then Vintage has the right of it, get a controller and you’re probably better off buying new. If second hand is still your thing, then Why Buy New have a good rep from what I’ve heard.- This reply was modified 8 years, 11 months ago by Stazbumpa.

It’s sort of under control now though, plus I’m gigging again regularly which always helps 🙂

It was a toss up between them and the ns7 II but I wanted a more modular setup so bought Denon. They are excellent decks, actually better than scratching on vinyl because there’s no danger of needle skip 🙂
StazbumpaParticipantHD25’s all the way. If I was buying new the Nocs would be seriously tempting though.
StazbumpaParticipantTraktor displays time played, time left and also the cute little wave form with minute breaks in it. If I’m on CDJ’s without Traktor, which is rare these days, I always set them to display time remaining.
StazbumpaParticipantIt’s a fair wedge of cash but you won’t go wrong with the ns7. When I upgraded a couple of years ago I nearly went with the ns7 II which had just been released at the time, but in the end chose Denon. If screens and scratching are your thing then get the v3. It’s built like a tank and you will have A LOT of fun with it 🙂
StazbumpaParticipantLook for DJ Angelo on YouTube. He has a ton of vids on scratching and they are excellent. As for gear, I think he has a section for scratching with static platters (controllers) as well as regular motorised platters.
You don’t have to scratch with motorised platters, I myself prefer it (Technics and sc3900’s) but that’s just me.StazbumpaParticipantAll the controllers we mentioned earlier come with Serato DJ Intro included. Some places you buy from will sell you an upgrade to the full Serato DJ software at a discount.
StazbumpaParticipantI use Traktors own recording system and my mixes sound just fine.
StazbumpaParticipantIt’s a combination of things, among the most important are things like build quality, quality of the faders and how long the buttons last.
Denon make excellent kit for the money, I’m a Denon user myself, but I also know a guy who plays regularly in bars and he still uses his old Numark Mixtrak Pro.
Any of those controllers Terry_42 listed will be solid first choices, but the Hercules probably won’t last anywhere as long as they will.Just telling you the truth as I see it mate 🙂
StazbumpaParticipantI’ve been gigging nearly 20 years, I’ve never gone near any form of licensing for myself and a I’ve only ever seen a ppl/prs guy once (back in 1998) which I took as an excuse to play some of the most obscure German techno I had in my record box.
He spent most of his time double checking his spelling.
StazbumpaParticipantI’m going to +1 Reason, you get a hell of a lot of virtual studio for your money and it’s also extremely stable to boot.
People just can’t seem to make it crash.StazbumpaParticipant*shrug*
I’ll take my PC at less than half the price thanks. It’s never crashed or had any other problems. Apple make nice stuff, but they’re a lot like Pioneer in that they’re massively overpriced for what you get.
True, some PCs do approach the same price point but I would hazard that they’re overpriced too. -
