for a challenge you could also try matching a track at 65bpm with one at 130bpm (exactly half bpm) for instance π
SunjaloMemberIf you project enough confidence people will ignore the fact that you’re not using the most expensive gear or ”lesser” gear, which i honestly do not think the mixtrack is
only other dj’s are gonna know that is is entry level and if they don’t like it well it says something abt there character – a lot of dj’s get too mixed up in what gear is being used on not the show that is being produced
Guys that bring controllers into the club tend to not get invited back
kind of like this where i live too, its a barrier to dj’ing as in only if you have enough money for the gear and a large vinyl collection will we even consider acknowledging your skills never mind your tune selection for that matter – its so lame and closed minded, its like that with a lot of activities tho – you gotta have the right gear to be in with the IN crowd. However this mindset “usually” falls away after the teenage years – sadly tho only usually and not always :p
SunjaloMemberHey Mitch wassup π
So u can have things all beatmatched great – however when you start your mix things can still sound like they clashing and not good together, this is cause they are out of phase….
1 thing you need to get right is the phases – if you get mixing in phase correct, you can start playing around hiw you like and its not that hard once you got it down…
Electronic music is 4/4 time which means 4 beats to a bar – simple really once u get used to it. Then there are 8 bars in a phase, this means 32 beats per phase – if you bring in any song at the start of a phase on the playing tracks start of a phase – where 1st beat of the phase matches track 2’s first beat of its phase (at beginning/middle/end/anypart) of a tune, they are going to make musical sense and sound good, usually u dont want to bang in one tune in its peak while another tine is going into a breakdown (however it can work)
Get your phases right and you can pretty much mix tracks when/how you like π
You can hear changes (often big changes sometimes a little more subtle) in all tracks when the phase changes…
Here’s an exercise to do:
Listen to any tune you have – count the beats from the very first one like so: 1-2-3-4, then 2-2-3-4, then 3-2-3-4 (you are now counting beats and bars – bar count is the 1st number in your beat count), carry on and when you get to 8-2-3-4 listen to the changes in the music on the next bar which is a new phase (on count 9-2-3-4), however here i count again from 1-2-3-4 as it is the start of a new phaseHope this helps ^^
SunjaloMemberhere is a great source:
SunjaloMembersounds like you have a virus or malware probably both – 90 processes sounds rather high – too much ‘youtube’ i would say – lol π
SunjaloMemberoh btw – this link: http://www.last.fm/music/Chasing+Kurt
has some artists similar to chasing kurt listed – i also listened for a few minutes on the beat port page – reminds me of an old deep house group called murk, the album in particular was called miami deep π
SunjaloMemberI need to focus on work for a few hours and not constantly buying music!
lol – i always do that too ^^
SunjaloMemberI like it – i esp like the fact that it has a deeper meaning to you to, a slight variation that in my opinion has a better flow is Samsona (sonar is sound in spanish) – it just seams to flow off my tongue a little easier than with the ‘s’ at the end π
SunjaloMemberThanks everyone – this is working was by default – missed it somehow π
SunjaloMemberThanks for the feedback chaps – will check out the setting around save collection when closing and revert back here – thanks again π
SunjaloMemberMy advice would be to try and beat match on the high hats instead of the first beat – so usually will be on the 2/4 – i found with dubstep and dnb type genres this is easier – for me anyhow
so instead of cueing on the 1 cue on the 2 (with highhat) and then drop onto the 2 of the track playing – hope u find this easier too π
SunjaloMemberVery sick indeed – nice work π

Sorry! We canβt find that
Did you try to access a private sound, but were not logged in?
Maybe the resource has been removed. Is your track set to public ?
SunjaloMemberat the very least try and arrange a bar tab π
January 30, 2013 at 2:28 pm in reply to: In the mix, how much of a song is enough or too much? #35970SunjaloMemberi think this all depends on your personal style and how you like to mix.
i know a few tracks that start off great and end poorly so i like to mix those out early, on the flip side there are plenty tracks that i have to let the whole track play too.
on a sidenote – i hate it when a dj cuts a track i love short, depends on the nite and incoming but it its a good way to get me to take a break from the dancefloor occasionally ^_^
