‘I’ll have that with knobs on!’ – tactile control comes to the iPad / tablet DJing, thanks to this new Kickstarter

Ever wanted to add knobs to your favourite iPad DJ app? This forthcoming Kickstarter campaign for offers exactly that: High quality, professional knobs that you can stick to your touchscreen using simple micro suction cups. Called Tuna Knobs, they’re designed to be compatible with most DJ and music making apps and work on iOS, Android and Windows tablets and phones.

“The downside of using a touchscreen is that you miss the authentic feel of twisting a knob on professional DJ gear. Tuna Knobs wants to bring back that feeling to the tablet so you can enjoy the mobility and versatility of your touchscreen with the precise and expressive experience of professional hardware. On top of that Tuna Knobs are small enough to take with you wherever you go so you can transform your tablet into a true DJ station anywhere.” says John Tillema from the company, which is based in the Netherlands.

“Tuna Knobs use conductive silicon rubber to translate turning a knobs into the right signal for your touchscreen, not dissimilar to how a stylus works.” he continues.

We think they’re actually quite a good idea, and certainly would make an iPad look more professional when also attached to an external controller. Will be interesting to see if they set the DJ world on fire enough to succeed on Kickstarter – and if they do, the company predicts the first Tuna Knobs (weird name, by the way boys!) will drop by the holiday season this year.
