Once a month on a Sunday we like to have a bit of fun and work out just what we can do with all the old CDs that are knocking around nowadays. You’ve probably got lots yourself that you haven’t played in years, but spare a thought for the CD DJs who’ve gone digital – all those CDs, half the time with only a song or two only recorded on each, sat around unlikely to ever be played again.
And while plenty of people argue that every piece of vinyl ever made should be worshipped and revered forever more, CDs never quite get the same insane love. You don’t hear about “CD only” DJ nights, do you? No, the CD really is in need of some fresh ideas now we’re not putting them in our CD players any more.
Luckily, we’ve got a great one here. Granted, you’ll need to get your hands on a seriously large number of old CDs, but if you could, you too could make yourself one of these CD chairs! It’s by Spanish designer Belén Hermosa, and is called the “panda chair” (maybe because CD DJs will soom become about as endangered as the panda? 😉 ).
“Polycarbonate is an expensive and hardly recyclable material,” says Belén, who goes on to give us an exact number of CDs needed to make the chair – 4,232. That’s an awful lot of old CDs to find…
What have you done with your old CDs? When did you last play any of them (honestly)? Let us know in the comments!
